This is the first ‘proper’ article I ever wrote, after a couple of years writing forum posts that had featured more and more detail over time!
Now, to say I’m dismayed at the prose and what I considered good research back then would be an understatement! But as I couldn’t find this at its original home (The Cyber Boxing Zone) and I managed to find a PDF copy I’d sent to a boxing historian I respected in my sent items box, I thought it might be worth letting you guys take a look!
Maybe one day I’ll revisit the story of George Benton. For now though at least the research I did was sound enough. I wouldn’t even let you take a look if it had untruths in it! I hope you can get some enjoyment from it and that it may prompt you to check George Benton out. My recommendation: a losing effort for sure but you would see anyone come out of the fight a loser, as it’s an absolute classic ‘two-way technical’! From 1963, it’s George Benton versus ‘The Hurricane’ himself Rubin Carter https://youtu.be/3n10x4HqImU
