We put out an abbreviated, edited version of this with notes from the Destiny talk soooo it's time to put this one into the Patreon vault!
Story: Having initially watched this and been immensely dissapointed with the performance of Hanz & DM, I thought it might be good to try and patiently go through it and explain why that was. Hanz, who was remarked upon on Twitter and other places as being good faith, and who had reached out to me a few times in DM's, seemed like someone capable of much more than what was on display here. Tackle onto that fact, that he and Demon Mama were apparently friends before this, and it seemed ripe for commentary and critique. He certainly didn't go out of his way to make this a good conversation and I'd argue he actually took several steps to accomplish the opposite. I know from experience that Demon Mama doesn't take these reviews very seriously, nor will she accept advice given in them, so I resolved to treat her as fairly as I could, while focusing my advice on Hanz, who I figured would be receptive to it. This combination of being fair or overcorrecting for a bias against Demon Mama, whilst also focusing my feedback on Hanz, came off awfully. Pair that with the fact that Destiny had a radically different takeaway and there was a recipe for disaster. Any time Destiny takes an opposing stance on a review, his audience really feels the need to portray other opinions as those of crazy people. He didn't treat my perspective much better when we spoke and that only added insult to injury. I stand by the advice to Hanz though the details of the conversation needed to be corrected after the talk with Steven. I've been able to understand a lot of small, intricate issues with the reviews after this one and have numerous solutions, ranging from a rubric to avoiding any corrections for the feelings I have about creators. In that way, this was a productive review, but in so many others, it felt like a sinkhole into which I threw a lot of time and energy.
