Here's the truth....

My favorite gentle giant isn't a fictional character, though a popular fictional character that he played was mentioned many times, Fezzik. Andre the Giant was a real life gentle giant and it was an absolute pleasure to know him when I was a child. He had a profound impact on my life and I miss him dearly. His job was literally to throw people around and slam them into things and to have the same done to him. But outside of the ring he was the nicest, most gentle person I have ever known. Outside of his jobs, he is probably best known for calling everybody "boss"which was a disarming tactic of his. As he put it, "all anyone can see is 236 kilos standing over 2 meters tall, I'm a scary looking man. So I speak softly and call everybody boss, it catches them off their guard and makes them actually think about who I might be as a person." I once asked him why such a gentle man became a professional wrestler, to the best of my memory this was his answer: " I don't like hurting people, but when you can't fit in most vehicles and you can't read English, you don't have a lot of other opportunities, and a job is a job, and my size makes this job easy."
