9/12/2017: Technical Difficulties
Added 2017-09-12 22:24:12 +0000 UTCAs I mentioned in my last post, the goal for the capture card has been reached, and I have in fact purchased an Elgato HD60 Pro for use with my content.
My last post also alluded to the fact that I was going to start using it to record PS1 games, but after initially setting it up I noticed that I couldn't actually record my PS3 (which I was going to use to run PS1 games).
Now, this isn't some massive problem that has derailed all my videos or anything, but I'll explain what's happening; the HDCP ( High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection ) for the PS3 means that the capture card doesn't receive any video. The capture card itself is functioning fine, I tested it with a PS4 (no HDCP), and it was able to record.
I anticipated this from the beginning when i was researching the purchase of the capture card, and it's possible to remove the HDCP and record the console... the only problem being that the gizmo I ordered doesn't actually work.
So in the end, I'm stuck waiting on a new doodad to arrive and hope that one works properly, but since the capture card was purchased using money pledged by you, I thought it was appropriate to explain what's going on behind the scenes as this as already caused me to skip a couple streaming sessions. In the meantime, I plan on streaming a much shorter game that I can set aside once this HDCP business is sorted out.
