Notes from the nominator:
It keeps revealing itself to be prophetic. "It's what plants crave..."
The Usual Suspects (1995)

A sole survivor tells of the twisty events leading up to a horrific gun battle on a boat, which began when five criminals met at a seemingly random police lineup.
Written by Christopher McQuarrie. Directed by Bryan Singer
Notes from the nominator:
This is the movie that never fails to amaze me when I watch it. Who is Kaiser Soze? Every trip through the movie is fascinating even though I know the ending, and when the answer hits I laugh with pleasure every time at the sheer genius.
Heavenly Creatures (1994)

Two teenage girls share a unique bond; their parents, concerned that the friendship is too intense, separate them, and the girls take revenge.
Written by Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson. Directed by Peter Jackson
Notes from the nominator(s):
- Heard on Kingslingers that another Patron nominated it a lot but never won. I actually haven't seen this movie, so it'd be fun to see it for the episode!
- I'm nominating it again: It's early Peter Jackson, on the cusp of schlock-to-art films. It introduces stellar new talents Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey. It's fantasy, murder, humor, and tragedy. This is worth watching and worth talking about!
Empire of the Sun (1987)

A young English boy struggles to survive under Japanese occupation of China during World War II.
Written by Tom Stopardand directed by Steven Spielberg
Notes from the nominator:
Steven Spielberg classic about Southeast Asian expats (British in Shanghai) during WW2, starring a young Christian Bale and John Malkovich.
