FOOF video is here!

Hello everyone! The new video is here for you to watch early access now!!

Just like last video, this is meant to be the final version, but after uploading I see that there are some render errors, probably from my computer overheating again…… re-rendering and uploading is at least a 5 hour process, so I will do that for tomorrow- so maybe save your best comments for the non-broken version. But it’s still the same video so I hope you enjoy it!!!

(I’ll also tweak the Patreon list at the end to make it up to date if you’ve just joined!)

It was so fantastic to be able to go to the other side of the world to film a YouTube on a molecule I’ve always dreamed of seeing. It was great fun for me doing such a nerdy trip- and I really hope that fun comes across in this video.

Sorry there was a bit of a delay in getting this video out…. can you keep a small secret between us Patreons… there was some argument about some stuff I wanted to put in this video, and the lab ended up saying they wanted it removed. I’d been very open about saying they could review stuff and that was a big reason why they let me come, which was super cool… (((but there was a small accidental fire and I filmed it but then at the last minute they didn’t actually want any footage of the fire in there, which is definitely a shame for an Explosions&Fire video… I did argue a bit but honestly it wasn’t great footage and they were really worried about their safety department seeing it… Idk it’s a thing I dislike when a lab can’t be honest to their safety department about what they actually do, but that’s honestly how most Uni labs operate these days, myself included. Anyway I’m rambling…. The point is that I re-edited the video and now it is better than before even without that footage, even if you have to accept that there’s no fire in an Ex&F video. But yeah that’s a secret between us)))

Thanks again! Oh also there will be an Extractions&Ire video that’s sort of a ‘second channel’ video to this one, in which we smell fluorine and try and describe it.

Comments

Maybe the render glitches are because the FOOF have reached the video! So, I like more the first try :)

Andres Rios

Right, exactly! Bio is scary; far too applied for me.

Ryan Moser

Yeah its a weird thing to think about- are you actually smelling the fluorine or is your nose just responding to the fluorine reacting to it? Is there a difference? Smell is a strange thing for me to think about, how does it even work, biology is wild

Explosions&Fire

Man there are some nasty rendering issues. I can't watch it as it currently is :(

Danny Stainview

This the first half has rendering issues

Alexander Dupree

Oh wow, yeah, the rendering is a lil whack lol. Pour some water into the top of your computer. Ezpz liquid cooling.

Ryan Moser

Smelling Fluorine! Wowee! Thoughts on the chemistry/biology of smelling straight Fluorine? E.g., will it just react with *nose molecules* and be in there until mechanically removed? Hedging: I'm no chemist; I do math.

Ryan Moser

It was surprisingly quite different than chlorine for me, a lot more ‘musty’. Quite surprised at how different and clearly distinct it was

Explosions&Fire

I've smelled dilute fluorine before as my master's project lab was connected via ducts to a lab that used F2. I remember it smelling like bleach/chlorine.
