Heated Rivalry - Ep.1X5 "I'll Believe in Anything" UNCUT & UNCENSORED

I left a comment under someone else’s about how much Ilya’s character frequently gets misunderstood. I think you did a great job in this episode of showing him grace. I wish they showed more of his relationship to his father too. There’s always next season, however. I also think it’s a lovely part (and realistic part) of Ilya’s character that he still wanted to care for the man who put him through so much pressure/abuse. Ilya’s a loyal guy with clear family values—just sucks that the family and country he was born into treats him like shit. (Also did you catch what some people think is a cop car passing by before Ilya admits that he loves Shane in the Russian monologue?) Anyways, I love Ilya 😭😂

Steph :)

YES. Reactors so often misunderstand and dismiss Ilya… which I think is wild, considering what a good guy he clearly is underneath the all the hard, defensive posturing. LOVE what this episode does for his character. I wish more people “saw” Ilya instead of just feeling bad that Shane is “stuck” with a toxic asshole. Can’t wait for the next episode!!!

Steph :)

I am French and in fashion... I am now desperate to know what foreigners call a French tuck! 🤣

What did you think of Ilya's Russian monologue? It nearly broke me.

I don’t know how many times I have watched this episode already, but it just never fails to move me. The Russian monologue and then of course the after the cup win scene are just so so incredibly beautiful and emotional. As you probably have noticed, this series gets rewatched a lot. It’s incredible how it just keeps getting better each time and you can notice new things every time. It would be awesome if you could rewatch it with your SO and post those reactions as well 😍

I'm not sure where you got this info from. Based on the show, it should be the night after the club, as the next scene is showing us Ilya going back to Boston after the game against Montreal (his teammate is teasing him for being a "beautician", meaning getting some action the night before which we know it was not the case.) If I remember correctly, Rose and Shane were together for about two months in the book but I could be wrong 😜.

This episode perfectly highlights that beneath Ilya’s tough exterior lies an incredibly loyal and deeply respectful person. Two scenes in particular showcase his profound integrity and protective nature: The Beach Scene: The fact that Ilya doesn't touch Shane or make a move until he confirms the definition of compatible shows that no matter how much he despises Shane's relationship with Rose he still respects it. Despite his jealousy of Rose, Ilya refuses to put Shane in a position of cheating, demonstrating how much he cares about him. Once again he's proven to be the "consent king" by honoring boundaries, no matter how desperately he wants to cross them, prioritizing Shane's stability over his own gratification. The Brother Confrontation Scene: We see a stark contrast in how Ilya handles conflict. He silently endures horrible homophobic slurs from his brother, refusing to get aggressive. However, the moment his brother calls Svetlana a "whore," Ilya immediately attacks to defend her. This scene demonstrates that while Ilya may endure personal pain and abuse, he is fiercely loyal and protective of the people he loves. You can treat him however you want, but you dare not hurt his loved ones.

Interesting Fact: As of right now in 2026 there are no former and/or current openly gay NHL players. The NHL is the only men's pro sports league to never have a current and/or former player come out publicly as gay/bisexual. Every other major men's sports league in North America has had at least TWO. Those leagues include: NFL - NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE NBA- NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION MLB- MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL MLS- MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER CFL- CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE The Minnesota ameteur/recreational ice hockey player, Jesse Kortuem, has publicly come out and shared that this show inspired him to embrace his identity, however, he is not a pro-player in the National Hockey League.

I was originally confused about the opening Rose/ Shane Hotel Room Scene, but then I found out that it's not the morning after the club. It's actually a few days to a week later. He was able to 'perform' the night of the Club Scene because he was thinking about Ilya. I also didn't realize that Shane and Rose were together for approximately 3 months. I was really surprised that Shane opened up to her as much as he did, but then I found out how long they had been together and realized that's why he trusted her. It's amazing how much his confidence grew and his ability to communicate improved. It's amazing how much one person's support can help someone who's struggling.

In the book canon they are 17 when they first meet. Juniors players are usually around 17 to 20, and then the NHL caps the draft at ages 18-20 for North Americans and 18-21 for Europeans, so yeah they really are that young.

Funny you say IT: Welcome to Derry. Both shows were airing at the same time on HBO and my TikTok fyp was hilarious/horrifying/horny every scroll

I have rewatched so many times and never noticed that so thank you for posting about it!

I think one of the nicest underrated touches in this episode that I don't see many talk about is when Ilya is speaking to Shane over athe phone. After Shane closes his eyes...the vocalization from Ilya goes from soundling like Ilya is speaking over the phone to sounding like Ilya is in the room with Shane. Its just a nice touch to show how focused Shane is on Ilya.
