Interview with the Vampire - Ep.2X4 "I Want You More Than Anything in the World" UNCUT & UNCENSORED

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! As a spoopy gift to my Patron's, here's my latest reaction OVER a week early!

Love is.... in the air (?) Or perhaps attractions aren't inherently mutual. In any case, Coven life in Paris is now in full swing! With Claudia officially inducted and reluctantly playing her new role, and our new "will they wont they" couple of Luis & Armand trying to sustain each other both in and out of the bedroom. But, not all is copacetic, and it appears that discord is beginning to brew.....

Louis and Armand are definitely playing around with the whole dom/sub thing but a lot of people forget it’s the sub who is in control. They’re the ones who can put a story to it all, not the dom.

When do you think the reaction to 2.05 is going to come out?? I’m hoping tonight 😭 I can’t bear the wait any longer lol

Caitlin 🥀

After the election results, I am even more anxiously looking forward to tomorrow's video.

Melissa

Good sir, if you have the means, I think the people of Patreon here could likely really use a post-election S02E05 react distraction…

Lee

I thought it was such a cool and brilliant choice, the painting. I immediately recognized the similarities and that it was Armand, the framing in that scene was so good. Everything about this show impresses me.

Tarabee

I LOVE that interview from her and that quote about art and vampires and humanity.. it always stuck with me. they did great job presenting it in the show :)

Maja Misak

there's an interview with anne rice where she talks about vampires and art and she says: "one of the themes in the vampire chronicles is that the vampires couldn't really do anything artistically valid. they never could. they were outside of the great drama of human beings and what human beings can create, and art is completely legitimate, transformative, and transcendent when it's done by human beings, but not when it's done by a vampire who's trying to do it. the whole destiny of the human race means that vampires should stay out of it." this is really applicable to louis and his photography and why it's such a good interpretation of rice's thoughts on art. he can understand and appreciate good art – he and armand are literally art dealers, and he has such a desperate desire to produce meaningful art, but he can't do it. it's a bone-deep frustration he has with himself and his state of being; he wants to be an artist and produce something worthwhile and something which means something to the other people looking at it, but the inherent disconnect from the artistic process due to his vampire nature is getting in his way.

lol

Isn't it devastating that in that moment Armand believes someone is finally seeing him as being interesting enough to capture, to "paint" him again but in reality Louis was focusing more so on Dreamstat and capturing him on film

Caitlin 🥀

I thought that was the black striped suit with the green tie that we see him wear in s2 ep2? he wears that suit when he meets Louis family for the first time at dinner

Caitlin 🥀

One thing I'm not sure if you've noticed/anyone else has mentioned, but that photo of Armand that is his best work is actually a photo of Dreamstat. If you go back to the moment when the photo is taken, the empty place that takes up most of the frame is where dreamstat was standing, and when he develops the photo you can actually see Lestat's image fade in and out very quickly.

Ariel Brennan

Fun fact: the suit that Dreamstat is wearing in the bench scene, is the same suit that Lestat wears when he meets Louis’s family

H P

can you rewind 10second when you pause the video you miss some small looks and expression that are so important

Anaïs

I loved that you noticed the shift in the power dynamic between Louis and Armand. My interpretation is that when Louis says goodbye to Lestat on the bench, he's letting go of his one weakness—his love for Lestat. He does this because he feels he can’t survive otherwise. Remember how, back in New Orleans, he had to embrace "Louis the pimp" to endure? By saying goodbye to his vulnerability, "Louis the pimp" reclaims control. He becomes stronger, tougher, more dominant, as he believes that's the only way to endure everything happening to him—his pain for Lestat, Claudia leaving him... and then, Armand. Also, Armand has always been toyed with, was enslaved, and is forced to lead the coven for years despite it not being his true desire. So perhaps, for him, allowing Louis to take on the dominant role is also a source of comfort. It’s so fascinating! 😭

Victoria

the way this episode cuts of in the end is just pure EVIL!! I remember it was torture waiting whole week for the next one hehe! great reaction! and omg I'm so excited for you to watch the next EPISODE 5!!! My fave of the season. can't wait for you to see it :)

Maja Misak

1:16:10 The reaction from Dreamstat here in the museum is interesting. Seeing how Dreamstat is just Louis' subconscious its so interesting to watch every scene he's in in the context of that being just Louis, having those inner thoughts and reactions and lines. When I first watched the show I didn't understand Dreamstat's reaction there but now I see it as Louis just being conflicted. He feels something for Armand in general, and also feels for his story, but probably also feels like Armand is trying to emotionally manipulate him. Which aligns with "Dreamstat" calling Armand "manipulative little gremlin" at 1:22:16 LOL

Maja Misak

1:05:05 This line here.. "Romeo!! He's barely Balthasar..." is so epic. Everyone knows who Romeo is, but Balthasar is just a minor side character. Epic burn. Also in the play he is a servant of Romeo, and also the bearer of bad news, the one that comes to inform Romeo with false news of Juliette's death. Interesting... awesome writing here 😂

Maja Misak

the odyssey of recollection <3

Maja Misak

in some more popular vampire lore vamps cant be seen in the mirrors or photos its suppose to be a metaphor for "not having a soul" but this absolutely does not imply to Anne's vampires, they very much do and the remnants of their humanity and their souls are pretty much their curse when you have to be a vampire and kill and live for centuries. pretty much none of the other vampire tropes apply to them, except fire and burning them do death or decapitation. the only thing that does affect them is the sun they cant go out during day or even be awake but they changed even that on the show with older vampires like Armand.

Maja Misak

44:05 In the books when Louis first meets Santiago in the streets of Paris (it's actually the first vampire from the Theatre he meets) Santiago doesn't talk to him normally he just mimics him, first his steps than his movements and his lines.. but he does it in more clownish mockery way... He comes off as a trickster character. So they took the mimic thing from the book but really elevated it here.. Making it looks like Santiago has this power to mimic someone's voice but than also thoughts and sort of get into their heads. I really like what they've done with that scene and Ben Daniels was so awesome with the accent in this scene :) Buffon line is also famous from the book which is one of the reasons Santiago starts hating Louis lol

Maja Misak

(whispers) please let these next few weeks pass by quickly I NEED TO SEE YOUR REACTIONS EVERYTHING ELSEEEEE

🐝

Something this episode really showed me was the duality of Louis - the rage and the vulnerability, his ability to listen and his ability to manipulate. What is interesting is who he choses to show or deny that vulnerability too. When you see him with Armand he is colder, calculated, harder, he controls the relationship down to what to even call it. With Lestat and even dreamstat he is softer, he listens, their dynamic is more playful and communicative and trusting. Louis is closed off to Armand and chooses carefully what parts he is allowed to see or experience whereas Lestat represents that familiarity/homes comforts that allow that vulnerability to come through. Which brings me back to the quote by the art dealer - "you caught the soul he is hiding" perhaps he wasnt just talking about Armand in that scene??? Louis lets Lestat see the soul he is hiding. It would also be amiss to not atleast touch on the dynamic between Armand and Louis especially at the end of the episode - Louis was a pimp after all and Armand is a victim of trafficking, perhaps this underpins their sub/dom dynamic too.

Caitlin 🥀

Anne Rice’s vampires can be seen in mirrors & photographs. They are supernatural physical beings anchored to the world via the vampiric blood. The Longer they live, the stronger they become. Surviving/healing from mortal injuries compounds that strength . Which is why it takes a great deal to completely kill a vampire. Like Louis said in season 1. Decapitation , dismemberment exposure to sunlight/fire, starvation, complete destruction of the body.

Paris Hardy

A fan?

Paris Hardy

"Armand is a rebound that lasted 70-80 years" oh Jacob I love him so much lmao. Very excited for your reaction to episode 5 but also VERY excited for 7 and 8!

Kat

I've seen people point out the parallels of the Baby LuLu play and Paul, echoing both the bird motifs (alongside Claudia's own bird motifs throughout the show) and his death. Also in case you don't remember or didn't notice, Louis says 'Remember me?' to Venus de Milo because she was with him and Claudia in the truck on their way to Paris in s2ep1. Edit: Also want to add that yes, in the books Anne Rice's vampires do have reflections and can be seen on film.

Sólveig

and so begins the louis the pimp saga lol

Miki

Happy Halloween! I was holding my tongue on my excitement for episode 5 because I didn't want that to influence you at all, but since you've already seen the hype from others, I'll add that I am SO excited for you to watch it next week. Also, I wanted to clarify Armand's backstory that he provided, since you weren't quite sure he was talking about himself til the end. It's not a spoiler just summarizing. Armand was originally named Arun and his parents sold him into slavery as a child in Delhi, India. Then he worked in a brothel as a child prostitute until he was 15 and bought by the vampire Marius de Romanus. He was renamed Amadeo, served Marius and was donated to friends until he almost died of sickness at 27 and then he was turned. Then Marius was killed and he was renamed Armand and sent to Paris which is where we saw him in episode 3. ALSO, something interesting about the painting used to reflect young Armand! They actually had to go through the Louvre and find paintings that had anyone in it that looked like they could be Assad Zaman. But it doesn't quite look like him. And while the real life explanation is that, that's the painting they chose, the popular, in universe, explanation is that Armand was intentionally whitewashed in the painting. His skin lightened and features Europeanized. Which just adds insult to injury to the endless cycle of pain that has been his life. I'm glad you noted the attitude shift in Louis at the end. The beginning of this dom/sub relationship with Armand is one thing, but Louis has had a bit of a personality adjustment that is more reminiscent to how he operated in early Season 1 and one might wonder how that coincides and why.

Daniel was searching for his name on the list of "known and suspected victims" given to him by the Talamasca. He's not on that one - he has a separate folder all to himself. He did have a copy of the tapes on his laptop, so it makes sense the Talamasca snatched themselves a copy before he deleted everything. Interesting that the art critic saw something fragile in the photo of Armand. As the actor says in the after credits, Armand needs outside validation and the coven isn't enough or doesn't provide that for him. Lestat...was not willing or able to be Armand's emotional support blanket (not a role Lestat is suited for, lol). Perhaps Marius de Romanus (Armand's maker) provided that support - saved him from the brothel, called "Master" even before he turned Armand, tried it seems to avoid turning Armand so he could live a full and human life, then out of compassion or love or who knows what did turn Armand when he was very sick and maybe dying. Armand has been searching 500 years for a new Master, is what I'm thinking. And he thinks Louis can be that for him. Which means he's also probably desperate as hell to hold onto Louis and their relationship.

Serralinda

One of my favorite details of this episode is when Daniel sees Armand at the bar again - the same flashback from s1, this time Armand has his vampire eyes but when he saw it in s1 he didn’t.

Emory

I’m so HAPPY to see that you were gagged by Armand calling Louis “maitre”, just like I was. Every other creator just skips over it like it doesn’t have MAJOR significance for what’s to come. I knew you wouldn’t disappoint 👍🏽

Val

Great reaction as always! Everything you said during the episode and the inside the episode bit just made me so more excited for 2x05! Can't say exactly why but I'm seated for sure lol Louis and Armand's dynamic tho... an ex (forced) prostitute and an ex pimp together for sure makes for some interesting dynamics. The back and fourth Jacob mentioned when talking about the dominant-submissive traits of both characters brings a lot of... heated conversations within the fandom, each side looking at a different perspective of the whole. Also about Louis and his mental health, I (and other people online) headcanon that he does have some kind of mental illness, and it was probably hereditary if we consider how Paul did as well. Maybe an ill brain is differently affected by the dark gift and that's why Louis sees dreamstat so vividly. Or maybe it was just their way to have more scenes with Sam lol

doodleydoo

I can't wait for the next episode, it's a show highlight. Hopefully another early release? 👀

Eloise

Best Halloween surprise ever!

Melissa

This is the first time I’ve seen a reactor mention Louis’ family history of mental illnesses informing his experience with Dreamstat. I’ve thought about this a lot! It’s interesting, I saw a theory that when vampires are turned they are essentially put on pause in the emotional state they were in. Louis was turned in an extreme state of emotion and shock which could also influence mental health challenges he has had throughout the show.

Julia Barrera

Everyone loves the later episodes which I totally understand because I do too. There's something about this episode, though, I think it's my underrated favorite. Purely because this episode is like that feeling you get at the very summit of a rollercoaster right before you plummet down. I just LOVE the anticipation it makes me feel, vorfreude!

Ana D.

Happy freaking Halloween!! Letsgooo
