Hey everyone! Here is my Full Reaction to Wicked! Since the Oscars are coming up, I really wanted to check out at least one of the movies that was nominated.

I am SO glad I was able to see this!

Have I already re-watched this film? Yes. Have I been playing the music nonstop? Yes.

Wicked (Full Reaction)

Die-hard Wicked fan here: I waited 17 years between when I first saw the musical as a kid and when this movie finally came out, and I have to say it was well worth it. I saw it multiple times in theaters and cried every time. Perfect casting, perfect direction, perfect music, perfect costumes, perfect sets... it was everything I wanted it to be and more. I'm beyond excited for part 2!!!

I never saw this as a Broadway show, and I never really learned much about the story. I knew Popular and Defying Gravity, but that was about it. I expected it to be good, but I didn't expect it to be THIS good. The finale alone... gave me chills. I'm really excited to see part two drop this November!

there was a cartoon from 1964 (no the one im referring to) but yeah they made a movie in 1985 called return to Oz. has a different vibe than the original movie but I loved it growing up

I agree! This was a special treat!! This must have been epic on the big screen.

Jacqueline

I didn't know there was a story where they return!!

Good idea! I wanted to see it before the Oscar's and I'm so glad I did. I've been wanting to check out A Complete Unknown as well.

Just finished watching your whole reaction to this film! I loved it so much! I loved The Wizard Of Oz as a kid so I was extremely excited to watch this film! I actually rewatched it a little while before this film released so I could catch some references and there was quite a lot that I recognised! Would love to see you react to The Wizard Of Oz! I still have yet to see the actual Wicked musical but its definitely something I want to see at some point! I've known about it for years and I've seen many covers of the songs from it like Defying Gravity & The Wizard And I! I have yet to watch it without crying! The film was just so beautiful and I was in awe at the acting, production design, clothing, singing, dancing etc..! I have rewatched the Defying Gravity sequence so many times! The soundtrack has pretty much been on repeat since it came out last November and the months leading up to the release of that I was listening to the original Broadway soundtrack! Really excited to see Part 2 that releases in November this year!😊

The moral of the story in Wicked, at least to me, is that sometimes the history we are taught is incomplete or even totally inaccurate. That we need to carefully consider what our leaders are telling us because they might have an unseen agenda. When Wicked first came to Broadway it was during the period when the US military was NOT finding large caches of WMD inside Iraq and this moral of having a skeptical mistrust for Canon resonated powerfully with current events. Perhaps it still does. The themes of friendship between strong women and the values of inclusivity are also beautifully drawn and only serve to strengthen the work's appeal in my opinion. Also it is just a really really great show with great lyrics and a great score and great production numbers. I super enjoyed sharing it again with you and identifying with your reaction. Thanks so much!

Great reaction Jax. I saw Wicked on Broadway back when it was with Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith and Joel Grey in the leads. I also LOOOOOOOVED the Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland since I was a little kid.

I also saw Wicked on Broadway this last year, and while it was great seeing the performers live, the movie is a more immersive experience. Thanks Jax! The music is great. Once again, if you're inclined, check out this acapella medley https://youtu.be/baZmBGHmS3I?feature=shared

I went to see this in the theater with no expectations and was absolutely blown away. I love the movie more every time I watch it. It's a real shame that we don't really get movies like this much anymore, where everything weaves together so perfectly.

If you do watch the original wizard of Oz you have to follow that with "Return To Oz" which is such a good return to the story of Oz.

woke up with just enough time to watch this before work. What a great way to start my day!

I'm gonna save this reaction for when Wicked comes to Peacock next month, but glad you enjoyed it. I would love to see you rewatch The Wizard of Oz! When I was growing up my younger sister monopolized use of our VCR to rewatch it over and over again, preventing me from watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So I hated it back then. But I would love to revisit it as an adult. As for other Oscar nominated movies, I didn't see many of them. But I really did enjoy A Complete Unknown. I wasn't completely sold on Timothee Chalamet prior to seeing this film but he gives a tremendous performance and I hope he wins the Oscar. Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro (from Top Gun: Maverick) also give great performances and Scoot McNairy should've been nominated for an Oscar. James Mangold (director of Logan) directed it so I am rooting for him as well.
