Alien (Full Reaction)

It's Monday Movie time! You guys voted on Alien as the next spooky movie to watch this Halloween season. Even though this movie isn't Halloween themed, it's the closest things I'll ever watch to a horror movie.

I was so scared throughout this film that I was having trouble forming my thoughts! It was an excellent sci-fi/horror movie and I'm so happy to finally be introduced to Ripley. She's such an iconic character.

Synopsis: In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

Let me know if you enjoyed this! Hope you are having a great start to your week! ❤️🐑🎉

Enjoyed watching this with you Jax such an epic movie !!

Glesnie

I will say Aliens produced some of the most quoted action movie lines, which I won't mention until Jax has watched it. They get re-used / made fun of / guest apperances in MANY other movies :-)

Joseph E. Jackson

I’m really glad she still enjoyed it. Really enjoyed the reaction.

TheEbonyElephant

Not sure if you realised, but Ash was played by Ian Holm, the actor who played Bilbo in Lord of the Rings

Andy Munden

Totally forgot about that one!!

Michael Norman

Veronica Cartwright was also in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" as a little girl. She was one of the students at the school later in the film.

HeyHeyJK

If you can handle Alien then you can handle Aliens🙂🫡

Alien/Aliens is in my top 10 for sure. I personally think Aliens is better, there is more iconic scenes/lines in it, especially the ending, it's very cool! I chuckled when you said maybe it's not as scary because it's old, they nailed the sets/props in this, irony is some of this older stuff because it's actually been created is far better than the current CGI landscape.

Alex

I've always liked the 4th movie, sure its campy af but its still entertaining and i love Brad Dourifs character in the movie, the 3rd i've seen once and that is it and will never watch it again, i've heard the Assembly cut is better.

Jasbro

I can say it was better for one reason, Money. James Cameron was a genius in his ability to generate production value. “Aliens" had a budget of $18.5 million and it still looks like a modern $100 million movie. In fact in the BTS documentary, James Cameron talks about how the studio tried to shut him down after the studio saw the first dailies; because they thought that he was going way over budget too early in the production process. Then a studio representative saw what he was doing and molified the studio’s concerns. He had raided several junkyards and was using ingenious practical effects to keep costs down. The “Aliens” Documentary is a fun watch.

Uncle Phoenix

I have been pleasantly surprised with how well some people like the third and fourth installments to the series. I agree with you, I didn’t like them as much as the first and second Alien movies; but a lot of my friends, nephews and nieces have really enjoyed them.

Uncle Phoenix

So, the director's cut of this movie was released in theaters in 2003 and it was actually the first horror movie I saw in theaters when my dad took me to see it. AS others have said, the sequel Aliens is fantastic and not made to be scary as this one was. If Alien is sci-fi/horror, Aliens is sci-fi/action. Lots of great characters in that too! Knowing this movie fairly well, I thought it was cute how tense you were at the start of the movie knowing nothing scary was really going to happen for 30 minutes haha. Also, t-minus stands for time minus! Oh, and you also asked what that giant fossil on the alien ship was, trust me, you don't want to pull on that thread!!

Your clear love of space and sci-fi really makes me wish I could watch you react to "The Expanse". Truly one of the greatest TV shows ever made, it's like "Game of Thrones" in space mixed with "Battlestar Galactica" and even sometimes the spirit and vibe and dynamics of a more serious "Firefly"! However, in terms of horror that isn't too graphic or insane, you should watch "Get Out" (2017) if you haven't seen it already. You said the title at some point in this reaction and it reminded me haha. Glad you loved this since it's one of the greatest space horrors and female badass movies ever!

DaftBasterd

"Could you just befriend it?" Lol The line of the day! 😅 Also, amazing how you instantly connected Harry Dean Stanton to the Hulk! The scene in Avengers when Bruce wakes up, after crashing to the ground, and the security guard says, "You may have a condition." Lol Great cast, seven outstanding actors! Veronica Cartwright in 2 of the best Sci-fi movies, of the 70s, this and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Love her eyes, and and expressions! Tom Skerritt, (Top Gun, M*A*S*H, Pickett Fences, A River Runs Through it) always outstanding! Excellent to watch again!!

Michael Norman

Sneaky bastards.

Better is a strong word. It is amazing and very different, so comparisons are tough. I will say the cast of Aliens is great!

I am also a big fan of the Special Edition because it gives some very good insight into Ripley. While I cannot recommend Aliens highly enough, I would recommend that you stop after that. The following films diminish in quality significantly and never reach anywhere near the heights of the first two.

Aendery2k

It is funny that you didn't find it as scary. When they first screened this movie it scared people so much that they would get up and move to the back of the theater to be farther from the screen. Just goes to show how much things have changed in 40 years.

Aendery2k

This is the infamous Eggmorphing scene, which has been largely ignored after Aliens gives a more complete explanation of the Alien lifecycle

MrDannySteele

Other media (movies, books, and games) have created a long relationship between The Company (Weyland-Yutani) and the Aliens. It is generally acknowledged that they had fairly clear knowledge of what the Aliens were. That was however all written after the fact (some of it decades after the fact) so take from that what you will.

Aendery2k

A deleted scene from the movie that I have always thought made more sense. - After Ripley sets the self destruct and is confronted by and flees the Alien (Leaving Jones) she finds Dallas and Brett still alive, cocooned. That is why she rushes back to turn off the self destruct. - They removed it for pacing but I believe it is referenced in some versions of Aliens.

Aendery2k

It is hinted at in a couple of the novels that the Weyland-Yutani knew about the Alien before the Nostromo because they had Ash placed on the ship prior to it’s departure. In one of the books, it is revealed that Ash had uploaded all of his findings into the company network and the company gained the knowledge when the shuttle was picked up. Actually the cast knew about the chestbuster, but they didn’t know about the spraying blood.

MrDannySteele

Im genuinely surprised they got you to watch something thats actually a scary horror movie! I know you prefer more wholesome content 🥹💙

Alright, so heres the answers to a few of the questions that came up during the movie! When Kane is convulsing on the table, they're trying to put a stick into his mouth. This is standard protocol for someone having a seizure. You put something between their teeth so they don't unintentionally bite off their own tongue. I know the scene you're talkin about, and that was in the first Avengers movie! He lets Banner know that he crash landed there big, naked and green, then asks if he is an alien. Personal Thoughts: I don't think that The Company (Weiland-Yutani) knew about the signal, or aliens in advance. They were woken on their way back home with a cargo haul of ore. Seems they happened across the signal by chance, and once the company knew there was an alien specimen to collect, they made that the priority. They weren't aware of its capabilities, or life-cycle. Egg to facehugger, facehugger to host, host to chestburster, chestburster to alien. Its unclear if correspondence between Ash and Mother ever made it back to Weiland-Yutani. Trivia tidbits: In John Hurt (Kane)'s chestburster scene, the rest of the cast wasn't told what was about to happen, so their reactions are genuine. Designs for the aliens in this movie were created by Swiss artist H. R. Giger. He was actually still alive until 2014, and the last film he worked on in the franchise was Prometheus. His artwork is pretty wild if you wanna look him up. Ridley Scott has apologized for how tiny Ripley's underwear was at the end. There was no reason it needed to be that small. Personally, I'm not complaining, but he's totally right.

Thank you Jax :) And like you said in another comment, I absolutely think the second one is even better than the first, way better, and I love the first one.

Derder

Definitely, the sequel Aliens is different but in a great way. It was written and directed by James freakin Cameron, enough said. To answer your question, this movie was green-lite after Star Wars became such a success causing all of the studios green-lite any space related projects they had including this one

MrDannySteele

My all-time favorite horror movie. It's never not the time to watch Alien.

Steve Mercier

I can’t say anything; except to say that, I am so nervous to find out if you like it or not. BTW: I am so thrilled that you recognized Harry Dean Stanton from the first Avengers movie; and that you noticed the Alien’s head in the escape pod. I am a little worried that you might become my new favorite Patreon creator. (AND, props to your mom for being a real one, for your dad. Love your mom.)

Uncle Phoenix

You'll be happy to know (if you continue the series) the sequel (Aliens) is more action and less scares, not to say its scare free but if anyone can make it through the first movie you'll be fine with the second, and we do hope you watch the sequel it is considered one of the best sequels ever in a movie franchise. Specifically the special edition of Aliens, it adds an extra 17mins of scenes which imo are a must see.

Jasbro

I've heard the sequel is even better!

Jacqueline

I am so excited to find out if Jax likes this movie. Hoping that she has the nerve to watch the sequel too.

Uncle Phoenix

Wooo! This movie and it's sequel are fantastic. I'd compare it to how good Terminator and Terminator 2 are.
