Tropic Thunder (Full Reaction)

Happy Movie Monday!! Today's movie pick is the Comedy Poll Winner: Tropic Thunder! This movie was completely unhinged! From beginning to end, I did not know what to make of this film. I laughed so hard my face hurt. I hope you enjoy watching my reaction!

While shooting an epic war film, the actors get dropped off into a real jungle in order to create a more authentic performance. With hidden cameras capturing their experiences, the actors accidentally find themselves in a real war zone. Will they be able to survive? Will they be able to finish their movie? And most importantly, will they ever get TiVo?

Watched on: Paramount+ / Runtime: 1:46:45

Hope you are having an amazing start to your week! ❤️

RDJ was the highlight in my opinion. Absolutely loved it

Chris Capitano

I'm glad you enjoyed this one Jax. Wasn't sure if you would! It's hilarious but not everyone's cup of tea.

Mike Smith

I don’t think it’s underrated. He got nominated that year for it lol

Alex Gonzalez

Such a wonderful wonderful movie! Funny enough too, RDJ did get nominated for an Oscar for this movie, but lost to Heath Ledger for Dark Knight, and really no one else was going to win it that year. Also, at the end, it doesn't make sense that Kirk would be presenting the Best Actor Oscar since the previous year's Best Actress winner would do that, but I think the implication is that Kirk is so dedicated that he actually won the Best Actress Oscar the year prior.

Ed Scoglio

Rdjs acting in this is wildy underrated. Although it's a satire comedy film I think it's a lot more sophisticated then the average film. "He's a neutron star heading towards a black hole. It's inevitable" *ques music 🕺

Alvin Baca

Fun react Jax! Of course it always seems jarring when you handle the extremes in a film, and I shouldn't be surprised that you have enough connection with that industry to feel the "insider" take on the satire. Thanks!

Robert Inman

Yes, Tom Cruise wore prosthetics to play the ridiculous caricature of an executive, Les Grossman. This is my second favorite Tom Cruise role, behind The Last Samurai :)

Senec

Rooster Illusion: A situation where one realizes that they do not know themselves as well as they think, shattering their grip on reality.

Brent Petty

I remember watching this in theaters! We all had an absolute riot and the fake trailers were legendary. Thanks for the great video Jax.

Koonce

"Where does he get the time to do that?" I always took it to mean he was based at least partially on Daniel Day-Lewis, who often had a few years or more between roles.

Brent Petty

Always disappointed when no one laughs at the Papa Squat joke.

Brent Petty

The comment about this movie I hear most often and I’d LOVE to hear your take on it, is: “That movie could NEVER get made today!” All the r-word references and such. Thoughts?

Lamar Smith

Oh and knowing how much you LOVE ‘Dragon,’ Jay Baruchel voices ‘Hiccup.’

Lamar Smith

Dearest Jax, this was SO good from you! I’m assuming you love Ben Stiller. You know my tennis background. I give you this for your viewing pleasure: https://youtu.be/DAmzSUMMbzQ?si=IgOQ_IPUKUGs-MrW

Lamar Smith

They seemed like legit previews at first and I was questioning who would sell that beverage! 😂 I love that he stayed in character for the DVD.

Jacqueline

Such a great line!

Jacqueline

Hahaha! That's dedication.

Jacqueline

I saw that he's going to be returning to Marvel! That is quite a shock!

Jacqueline

This is streaming on Paramount+

Jacqueline

There’s been lots of speculation as to the inspiration for Les Grossman, including Harvey Weinstein. What we do know is that the character wasn’t originally in the script - it was conceived and pitched by Tom Cruise to his friend Ben Stiller. https://grantland.com/features/the-making-of-les-grossman-an-oral-history/

Alex Ch

Tom Cruise's best role 🤣

Cameron

"I know who I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!"

Steve Mercier

This is one of my favorite comedies. I saw this in theatres and those fake trailers just started out of no where and for a moment we all thought they were legit previews and we were so confused. And I have the DVD and Robert Downey Jr. really did the DVD commentary in character 🤣

Alex Gorell

Robert Downey Jr. did in fact do the DVD commentary in character.

Alex Ch

Aw shame that it was the theatrical cut :( Can only find the director's cut online, which is 17 min longer so can't sync up

Daniel Botic

This oddly enough is not the wildest (WTF) Robert Downey Jr. casting. After what Marvel revealed during Comic Com this year it left fans both shocked and really confused. Robert has some wild castings lol
