The Last Samurai (Full Reaction)

Happy Movie Monday!! πŸŽ‰ This movie won the Classic Movie Poll!!!

Tom Cruise plays Capt. Nathan Algren, an American military officer who is hired to train Japan's army in modern warfare. As the Japanese government attempts to eradicate the Samurai and westernize the country, Algren finds himself being drawn to the Samurai way of life.

With wonderful dialogue and beautiful cinematography, this film captured the struggles Nathan Algren faced as a soldier coping with his past and trying to find a sense of honor in his life.

The Last Samurai (Full Reaction)

Comments

There's a really good movie about the delicate matter of the Japanese surrender of World War 2 even after the two bombs; it was not as simple as told history portaysπŸ€”... It's called Emperor. It's definitely worth watching πŸ‘

Thank you!

That's such a sweet moment to notice in the end. Thanks for pointing that out!

A Perfect Reaction to watch while playing Ghost of Tsushima (2020). A game set on the Japanese Island of Tsushima during the first Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274.

Another great reaction, Jax! So great in fact, as a native man from Canada, I'll even forgive the whole "General Custer debacle". keep these goodies coming!

First, I have to say that I love this movie. There aren't many epics that exist on this level, in my opinion, and this film deserves a ton of praise. But I feel compelled to comment on the most random thing... In the final charge, when the samurai are rushing through cannon fire and enemy troops, there's one horse in the charge with no rider. Makes complete sense, since a lot of riders would have been shot or whatever, but for some reason, every time I see that horse running along with all of their buddies that still have riders, it makes me smile. Sure, you could focus on the fact that the horse was rushing into certain death, but it just always makes me think of a horse joining their friends for a gleeful run. I've said it before in many other comments. Sometimes my mind gets stuck on the most random of things. βœŒοΈπŸ€“

Captain Algren's coming to align himself with the samurai culture is an engaging story in itself, even without the exorcising of his demons as an agent of genocide for his country. Together it's great.

Robert Inman

Spectacular movie...Tom Cruise is fantastic, but Ken Watanabe is on another level.
