The Terminator (Full Reaction)

In 2029, humans and cyborgs are battling it out for world domination. A cyborg assassin known as a Terminator travels back to 1984 to kill a woman names Sarah Connor. She may just be the answer to the humans winning the war. Thankfully, a man named Kyle Reese goes back to save her.

The Terminator (Full Reaction)

Comments

The terminator is a compsoer, "I'll be Bach" cI Wear M Sunglasses at Night", a song by Cory Heart (Canadian Singer) in the mid 80s. Gas being 40.3 cents / liter back then, dirt cheap compared to today's prices.

Stan Johnston

Man, made me feel so old - she didn't know bench seats used to be a thing in cars in the front, too.

Thomas Yanez

Your parents weren't that bad🤔 my dad let me watch the original Alien when I was 8 or 9 and it scared the s*** out of me😂

Gabriel Urias

"Terminator was Arnold's break out role" I will NOT stand for this Hercules in New York erasure!!! JK :) I actually have a similar childhood story as you Jax! When I was 5 or 6, I was hanging out with my cousin who was 3 years older than me and we wanted to watch a movie and he chose The Terminator, or it was Commando, but it was for sure a Arnold movie. Being an idiot, I told my parents about it because I liked the movie so much and my parents were NOT happy and put down a hard rule that I wasn't allowed to watch R-rated movies again, so any time I spent a week at my cousin's during the summer, when everyone would be downstairs watching some horror movie or violent action flick, I'd be upstairs, alone watching 3 Ninjas or some other kids movie. I look back on that now and realize how much that was some grade A BS!

Ed Scoglio

I definitely saw this one!

Jacqueline

I do want to ask after the next one again if this is the movie Jacqueline saw when she was six or whether it was actually the second. It just seems more like the kind of film a 6 year old might randomly get shown. 🤷‍♂️

Hey Jax! SO glad you liked this! It's an 80's classic for sure. I'm excited for you to check out T2! If you can find a copy make sure to watch the director's cut. There's a few scenes that really add to the story that are missing from the theatrical version.

Mike Swisher

I didn't realize the Days of Future Past storyline came out before this movie. It's very possible it helped shape this story.

Jacqueline

Hahaha! I do apologize for keeping you up and making you lose sleep! I am psyched to watch T2 considering how many great reviews it has gotten. The special effects in this film really held up considering how scary it was. Hope you have a wonderful weekend yourself and make sure to get some sleep!! ❤️

Jacqueline

Stan Winston had quite the career! I am really looking forward to seeing the next Terminator. ❤️

Jacqueline

Ed was such a great character! I'll have to check out those deleted scenes.

Jacqueline

Wow! I didn't even know these existed!

Jacqueline

I know right? That comment made me feel so old.

Jax, original moth balls were camphor, and the pungent odor was intended to repel moths from stored fabrics. The modern ones (as represented) were paradichlorobenzene, which can be converted to an improvised explosive.

Robert Inman

There are some youtube clips of stuff that The Terminator left on the Editing Room floor. One of these is Ed the Cop having a moment with Reese and Sarah; gives Reese his revolver which then goes to Sarah. I think Ed gives up the keys to the car they use to drive off in. But Ed shows off clearly that he Believes Reese.

Actually it was Cameron who convinced Arnold he'd be better as the Terminator and it was Arnold who was reluctant to do it because the Terminator was the bad guy and had far fewer lines than Reese. OJ was indeed considered as the Terminator but the studio didn't think he'd be convincing enough as a stonecold killer. I think Lance Henriksen was also considered for the part as James Cameron originally wanted someone who could just blend into the crowd. And Arnold doesn't exactly blend. LOL.

Eric

This was an unexpected but awesome surprise! This was so much fun watching it with you. The Terminator is a classic. And yes it was the movie that launched both Arnold Schwarzenegger's and James Cameron's careers. Schwarzenegger had done Conan the Barbarian before this one so he was somewhat famous already but this made him one of the biggest Action Stars of Hollywood. James Cameron wasn't well known before this but after this movie came out Fox greenlit his Aliens script and Aliens became one of the greatest sequels of all time and a sci-fi classic. Cameron followed that movie up with the Abyss and, imo the greatest action movie ever made, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. That movie cemented Cameron as one of the greatest directors. As for the special effects. We can thank the late great Stan Winston (RIP) and his team for bringing the Terminator's endoskeleton to life. He and his team are multiple Oscar winners and have made other iconic movie monsters come to life like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, the Alien Queen in Aliens and the Predator from Predator, another Arnold Schwarzenegger classic.

Eric

I think "Terminator Salvation" is a perfectly fine popcorn action movie (not fantastic, just fine). What it runs afoul of, in my opinion, is that it's part of the Terminator franchise, which was AMAZING in its early movies. And especially the first two are a tough act to follow. But I do believe that if "Terminator Salvation" had just been an unconnected sci-fi movie, with unrelated characters but a mostly unchanged overall plot, I don't think people would have been as hard on it. Just my opinion, of course.

BubblyRainbows

Hey Jax. I think I need to start doing "my reacon Jax reactions". It's so great and I have so many comments 😅 That said, just will comment about Arnold being the bad guy. Originally, James Cameron wanted him as Kyle and OJ Simpson as the terminator. But Arnold refused his role and convinced James he would be better choice as the terminator.

Dorival Jr

Haha, well it's no "The Godfather 2" but it's absolutely one of the best sequels ever, along with "Aliens". Not sure where "Avatar: The Way of Water" falls in terms of Cameron sequels.

HeyHeyJK

Well I certainly did not have "You did good, uterus" on my Reacts With Jax Bingo Card :) While yes the second Terminator movie is amazing and considered by many superior to this one, I do think the story in this one stands up on its own. It completed the circle they set up, and we know enough about what happens to Sarah next that if we never got any sequels, we still got closure. Jax, I absolutely recommend watching T2: Judgement Day. I know of three different cuts of the movie, but the extended versions don't offer that much extra if the theatrical is the only one readily available. A lot of people don't like T3: Rise Of The Machines, but I think it has some interesting things to say. But you can definitely stop there. Terminators Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate are all hot garbage.

Pleasant surprise !

Personal favourite Terminator film even though the sequel is amazing I just love the over all tone, synth soundtrack, and thriller feeling of the first film. Terminator 2 is amazing as well, budget is much bigger and it expands the story and characters while also having some of the best practical effects. T1 and T2 are just great movies so it depends on what you prefer like Alien or Aliens both equally amazing films. Days of Future Past is heavily inspired by the Terminator films, I'd argue that Days of Future Past is a better Terminator movie than everything we got post Terminator 2: Judgement Day. One of my favourite Marvel characters is Cable, introduced in New Mutants #86 (Feb. 1990) and heavily inspired by The T-800 Terminator we see in this film mixed with John Connor. The original Days of Future storyline released in 1981 just three years before Terminator (1981) but its not listed as any inspirations by James Cameron. Also Marvel back in 1978 released Star Wars 16: The Hunter featuring a character called Beilert Valance who is extremally similar to The Terminator we see in the film. So I like to imagine that Cameron may have picked up this comic and really enjoyed the idea of this character, not confirmed just something I noticed, both are just very similar.

LittleGalaxyBoy

I didn't know "The Terminator" was coming up on your channel. I JUST watched this with a friend last night, maybe three hours before this went up. Luckily, I love this movie, and I have no problem giving it a second watch within 24 hours... ✌️🤓 And now you can watch "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", which many will argue is the greatest sequel of all time. Personally, for me, "Aliens" just barely edges out T2 for that title, but it's so, so close!

BubblyRainbows

“Game over, man! Game over!!!” 😂

Dave Hill

So, on your question at the very, very beginning when you said you recognized one of the first actor Arnold met whilst nekkid as a jaybird: That was Bill Paxson from ‘Titanic,’ ‘Twister’ and the HBO series ‘Big Love.’ He holds a singular honor. At this point, he’s the only actor to have been killed by an ‘Alien,’‘Terminator’ and a ‘Predator.’ Not in the same movie, obviously.

Lamar Smith

Ok Jax, you owe me a coffee! :P LOL! It's going on 2:30am and I have to be at work in a couple hours, but I stayed up to watch your reaction immediately because this is one of my favorite action movies of the 80's and now I'm SUPER pumped for T2! Easily in my top 3 best action movies of all time! T2 was the most expensive movie ever made at the time it came out and did for action movies and visual FX what Star Wars did for movies at the time it came out. Still holds up well to this day. Please don't make us wait too long for that one! :D Now I know why you love Disney so much...it's your brain trying to compensate for the PTSD of having watched this when you were just 6 years old! HAHAHA! Jax: "I thought that Arnold was good in this..." Arnold: "Wrong!" You and Lamby have wonderful weekend!!! Now time to go and set about 6 wake-up alarms. ;)

Dave Hill

Okay, I feel less bad for showing my 14 year old daughter ‘Deadpool,’ which, for the record, she LOVES.

Lamar Smith

What are Moth balls? Oh how I love your comments Jax....

Joseph E. Jackson

That makes me even more excited to see T2!!

Jacqueline

I agree! It's so easy to forget plot details as well.

Jacqueline

While Terminator is a perfectly fine sci-fi/low-key horror movie, the good news is that T2 is arguably the best action movie ever made

Steve J

Honestly I think it's necessary to rewatch some movies around every 10 years because, in most cases, we're not the same person that we were 10 years before; it's been around that long for this one. This should be nice🤔🙂🫡

Gabriel Urias

I saw it when I was a little kid...but I don't have much of a memory of it. I must have blocked it out because this was scary!

Jacqueline

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Congrats on turning another year more amazing! Wishing you the happiest day ever!! ❤️🎉❤️🎉

Jacqueline

So it's my birthday today and was not expecting this at all. This is just wonderful. Jax you rock.

Alvin Baca

Really?! You haven't seen this one?🤯
