One song, sampled so many times

Day after Christmas, quarantining because of some Covid in the house and need to protect the baby. So, I'm using the opportunity to work on some things for my Rap class.  Attached you will go on a little journey with the song "Hihache" by Lafayette Afro-Rock Band and the often sampled drums of Ernest Donable.  One of the most famous drum lines in human history and the guy doesn't even have a Wikipedia page.

Anyway, here is what I'm going to play for them follow along if you'd like...

1973 Original song

1987 First time song is sampled by Marley Marl for Biz Markie

1989 LL Cool J samples it

1991 Both De La Soul (produced by Prince Paul) and Public Enemy sample it

1997 Both Beatnuts  and 'NSYNC sample it  (will have fun discussing that)

2003 Amy Winehouse samples it

2017 JID Samples it

then fun archaeology, as featured in my CMIYGL video, with Gravediggaz sample of it (produced again by Prince Paul) being sampled by Tyler

Not as much fun as being with my family but, also about as much fun as you can have goofing around on the internet!

Amen Brother! The history of breaks is so interesting. Here is a good long BBC 1xtra feature about the Amen break in Hip Hop & mostly Drum and Bass, that also touches on the history of sampling and other breaks. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BIBU6lEs0u4

really cool to walk thru, thanks skye !
