Faye, you always know how to make me smile 😊💕

ONLY in JAPAN

One of the best times of my life. Hard work, rewarding to see kids learn so fast and smile so often! Kind of miss it but now I get to make others smile around the world :)

ONLY in JAPAN

I have kept in touch with only one student which is sad. I don’t see myself as a famous YouTuber. It’s nice when people say hi on the street but I’m just John Daub and like to make stories come to life. Totally changed my perspective on the USA! Love it even more:) I am totally looking at it differently though. I also keep an eye on how politics shapes Japan’s relationship too. It’s kind of fun to look in instead of be in. I still vote so I am still informed but I don’t need to watch the news everyday to do that. Most things okay out over months and it’s easier to see things on the whole with politics than every little micro movement. Living in Japan, I don’t hear people talk politics about the US often.

Right!! I remember meeting Akebono when he was leaving the Grand Asumi Tournament back in 1999! Spoke English to us! We were in awe!! Nagoya is neither here nor there with Osaka and Tokyo on each side. That’s it’s attraction. It’s really an amazing crossroads of the country which is why it was a manufacturing powerhouse.

Loved seeing your pics and hearing you speak about Nagoya. I lived there in 1989 and I loved it. One of the most underrated cities in Japan, in my opinion. Last month, I went back to Nagoya for the first time in over 25 years and it still felt like the city I left. A lot has changed, but a lot has stayed the same. Going back again next year, but making sure I go in July so I can catch the Grand Sumo Tournament there.

Only on March 11, 2011. My heart was racing, I was shocked, frozen for a few seconds that seemed like eternity because I didn't know if I should run and stay where I was. I felt totally no control over my situation for the first time ever. Then it was over -- until the aftershocks.

20 years is a long time! It was great to listen to your experiences, John!

Hi Kevin!

Amanda C.

Hi John. With all of the disastrous weather that's going on around Hiroshima, in your 20 years did you ever find yourself in severe weather or an earthquake that made you feel like you were in danger?

Steve Ridgeway - NRT GO

Hi John, Greetings from California. Here's some questions for you? Have you run into any of your former English students? Also, do they even know that you are now a famous YouTuber? Lastly, how has being an expat changed your perspective of the United States? I ask this, because you are now looking at the US and its politics from a different perspective.
