I like that term "Enlightened amateurism." As the professional world becomes more and more structured around outcomes and bankthink, we definitely need it more.

2022-08-03 16:31:43 +0000 UTCIt seems to be the nature of bureaucracy that the place where you're supposed to be able to practice your expertise and hard earned knowledge, is the last place you're able to fully express it.Instead, we find our full expression in places it's not officially acknowledged and compensated for. Over the years ,I've come to see the benefits of enlightened amateurism. A place where you can practice freely for the pure joy of a subject. I think you're doing that now. Pick up a hobby in the lobby.

Would love a thunderground "is a good youtuber" series; there are tons of great lower profile youtubers around. I guess some of your "is a good youtuber"s are already lower profile, so may not apply. Particularly I'd love to hear your thoughts on diregentleman, particularly some of his older ruminations videos, but a lot of his work is great. I think he offers an empathetic worldview but in a unique tone I haven't seen elsewhere. He strikes me as very relevant, even though he lacks a larger following. A few of his videos have blown up, thankfully.
