Update 06/25/23

Hello, everyone!

David here. After my crazy past two weeks, things are settling down and I'm getting back into the flow. It's hard to describe how excited I am to start putting full-time work into Siren! I wasn't able to spend too much time in the game engine this week (see previous post for reasons), but some work did get done. Here are a few bullet paragraphs about where we're at:

Worked on more movement logic and and cleaned up part of the character graph (picture in the attached photo). Didn't have time to grab a flashy underwater screenshot, and I guess it's a good reminder to everyone that game development is a lot more than just putting together a pretty environment. A lot of the code-based work over the next two weeks won't have much visual impact on the game, but I'll try to grab a few cool screenshots of the environment along the way!

I've been chatting with an excellent 3d artist who is interested in joining the project. They have prior experience with character design and rigging in Unreal Engine, and their art style really fits the vision for the game!

Putting together a poll to release in the next Patreon update. You'll be able to answer anonymously, and it'll really help us a gauge our demographic, and also leave space for you to list the most important features that you'd like to see in the game. We have a decent vision of what game we're making, but there is definitely room to accommodate feedback from early supporters.

On a personal note, the past week had me dealing with a tiny bit of depression and anxiety over leaving the job I've had for almost eight years, but I guess that's to be expected. Was originally going to take tomorrow off to clear my head, but after a nice weekend, I'm just ready jump into Siren. Exciting times ahead!
