Japan Report 06 - Shibuya

Today we went to the world renowned Shibuya, a must see destination for everyone who visits Japan! One of the things we were insistent on seeing was the famous Shibuya Crossing and the 109 building, known everywhere for its trendy fashion that young people love. We loved seeing all the mutants dressed to the nines and strutting their stuff in the latest fashion pieces. Of course, we couldn’t go to Shibuya and not stop by the official Nintendo and Pokémon stores in Shibuya Parco! There were so many people with lines stretching all the way outside the stores. It was so hard to move through the displays and find our way. We left with many bags (thanks, Lab Card!) and were thankful for Leena’s many arms to help carry them. (Editors note: my office is still buried in merch!) We finished off the day by getting conveyor belt sushi (you have not had sushi until you’ve had sushi in Japan! It’s on another level!) and visiting Tower Records to check out the latest popular Japanese bands. Among all the girls we saw today, the most memorable were Mika and Miku, two cute Neko Musume schoolgirls who we met near the famous Hachiko statue. They surprised us with how in sync they always were, both in movement and speech. We learned that they are a hive mind when they explained that until they were 13 years old, they were actually one person who then underwent mitosis. Japanese mutants never cease to amaze us. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credit Card Balance: Shibuya 109 = ¥45,000 Nintendo Tokyo = ¥92,800 Pokémon Tokyo = ¥82,000 Capcom Store = ¥70,900 Shibuya Parco = ¥93,700 Food = ¥10,200 Tower Records = ¥21,500 Total = ¥416,100
