News, Plans and Updates (November 2019)

Hello!  I hope everyone is well and having a wonderful November.  Here are a few updates and plans for the rest of 2019.  Above is a video of some WIPs for your reference.

MilkyTracker Tutorials

Last month, I produced two MilkyTracker tutorials on panning and stereo effects (here and here).

Next up, making a drum beat!

I mean, ‘literally’ make a drum beat.  Every sound. This is what you’re hearing in the two excerpts in the video above. Every sample was made natively in MilkyTracker. Kick, snare, cymbals, toms and more!

When you’re getting started with MilkyTracker, the sample editor can seem like a pretty scary, overwhelming place.  But by the end of these tutorials, you’ll be laughing. I think I’ll divide them into six parts:

Pico-8 Music and Xmas!

You can hear some new Pico-8 music in the video above (0:40).  Both pieces are for a new game by Johan Peitz.

Also, are you interested in Pico-8 Xmas music?

Here’s a Google Drive link to all of my Pico-8 carts with Xmas music. Some are short tidbits, others are full length arrangements. If you’re a developer, feel free to use them.  Hopefully there’s something here you can use. If not, message me!

Songs include:

Jazz Piano Articles

In case you missed it, I posted two jazz piano transcriptions last week (Lennie Tristano on Deliberation and Dave McKenna on Yardbird Suite.  This will be part of a longer article about jazz counterpoint - improvising melody and bass at the piano.

Over the next month I’ll be writing some type of analysis of these transcriptions, with the goal of understanding how a pianist might play and improvise in this way.

This is something I’ve been practicing myself over the last year.  If you’re interested in hearing about the process, come say hello while I’m streaming!

That’s it for now, have a great November!

And of course, THANK YOU as always for supporting me here.  Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, but it still blows my mind that creators/artists have access to a site like this, and that there are people interested in my work.  You’re all the best!
