I co-written with the author of The Fake Player

Hey guys, how's it going?

Yeah, I am still co-writing with others.

I managed to co-write with a great guy from a fanfic that has way higher favs and follows than me, and I am kinda sure some of you guys follow this fic here.

 https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13120962/1/The-Fake-Player

The guy there posted the latest chapter I have worked very hard on with, and I gotta say that I am not about the major hate the readers have on my characters, however.

I made a lot of OCs in that chapter, the trio that tried to hunt down Shirou and the guy that ruined Shirou's perfect killstreak. I poured a lot of soul into those guys, fleshed out their character and stuff, but I gotta ask what you guys think of the writing there in chapter 11.

Is the hate justified? A large part of me says no because most of the hate is from the readers that are too into Fate and have no idea about the intricacies of Overlord in general. The MC there is at max level, level 100, and in YGGDRASIL, there is no such player that is supposed to have an advantage in that game nor could they handle other max level players easily, unless that player is a World Champion. Shirou is no World Champion.

I get it that Shirou had experience, but the mechanics of YGGDRASIL, the classes and variety of skills is different compared to the usual magics of the Fate universe. They are kinda similar, but YGGDRASIL is a different beast in itself with Players that can take on even Shirou from Fate. I am not as engrossed in the Fate series as others since the lore of Nasuverse is... too big for me to swallow and digest and I have no idea where to start actually learning why the hell are the readers so adamant in making Shirou OP in a world which got me writing in the first place.

Basically, this is just me writing out my shock hearing that readers don't like my writing for the first time so I want some professional opinions, unbiased on the matter to help me settle my thoughts. What do you guys think, anyways?

If you didn't read or follow The Fake Player, I recommend you check out the latest Chapter 11 to read my writing and judge for yourself.

Comments

I just received a PM reply from a guy that is usually a reader of my stories. Here is his reply: Overlord is powerful, don't get me wrong. But it is NOT more powerful than the Nasuverse. Servants are broken because of their haxes and skills. Overlord players are powerful, sure, but rarely, if ever, would they compare to someone like Cu Chulainn. Who is faster than Ainz, stronger than Ainz, has a better instant death than Ainz, and has so much skill that he'd make anyone in Yggdrasil look like nothing in comparison. Remember, these are people who are just given powerful equipment and other s***, it doesn't mean their skill at doing anything is far above human level. Their bodies go through the motions of the skills they use, but they don't just compare to the power servants have. --------- I really don't like how they portray the servants in comparison with those from Overlord. Anyone who says that has many problems on their side.

In fact, the author of Grand Foreigner also posted it on Space Battle. It's the first thing he says before starting to read the first chapter is that if you're a fan of fate not to read his story, since he doesn't care with the level of strength of the servants and will do it the way he wants. Since the problem is so big that he had to create an author's note to warn fate fans not to read his story. http://prntscr.com/svjmjm

First of all, it's not your fault, the problem is that Fate fans mostly don't agree with something that disagrees with the Canon vision they have. A story that is experiencing a problem similar to what you said = Fate: Beyond the Gate (read the comments). Fate fans today, most of them refuse to accept an Author to make a story where they try to match the two sides or differentiate from the canon in certain parts that they consider "important", example: Level of Strength. Another very good example , Overlord x DxD. If an Author tries to make Momonga be defeated by Serafall, I'm sure the comments would burst into flames, since it is official that just because Momonga has the time stopped spell is enough to defeat everyone below the level of a super devil (Gasper Vladi himself says that the only ones who can resist his Time Stop are those with the same level of strength as a super devil). So like, it's basically a very hard rotten egg shell. In fact, another example, the comments of the story known as the Grand Foreigner in its beginning (even in recent chapters there are still comments from Fates of Fate speaking ill of the story for not following the "canonical" strength level of the servants), the comments were packed with people saying that Fate defeats Overlord at all levels, that even the weakest servants could kill a lot of Nazarick's Npc thanks to his noble phantoms. So, yes, Fate fans have a problem with those who don't make their characters the "level" of strength that they deem appropriate. The only thing you can do is try to explain yourself and say that history is an alternative universe for a reason. The author does not need to follow the complaints of fanatics, as long as he likes to write and wants to continue, that's all that matters. In short: Nowadays many fate fans are toxic (and with a closed mind with something original or different) and the only thing you can do is go ahead and ignore them or answer that you don't care about their opinion. Warning: I use google translator to comment and read!
