Just a moment when Howie and Sooch pass by a familiar place from chapter 12. For Sooch, that night was a turning point. His feelings for Howie had been shifting very gradually prior to that night, but that night was when he first knew there was definitely something special there.
For Howie it was more of a bittersweet memory. It was a fun night running around town with the boy he wanted, maybe sharing a few special moments (he was hopeful but not sure!). They weren't together at the time.
Then they pass by the spot at the current point of the story and they recall how far they've come.
