For the $2+ and $5+ backers, here's this month's Wall of Thanks and Polygon avatars! Also sent some of you a drawing of a duck, entitled, "Quack to School"

Hi all!
On second thought, I'm starting my 6-month sabbatical now. Trying to finish my next project while moving to a new city during a pandemic would be... non-ideal.
Besides, you may have noticed from my last few posts that Nicky Mental Health levels are dipping pretty low. Not at the "being awake sickens me" threshold yet, thankfully, but I've learnt my lesson from last time – take the break before I break.
So: I'm on sabbatical! I paused the Patreon yesterday. You won't be charged for September, nor until March 1st, 2021.
This is the first time I've ever paused this Patreon since it launched six years ago. Don't worry, I'll still tell you what I'm up to once-a-month-ish! (With reminders that the Patreon's still paused)
I'll spend these months:
1) Being with people I care about.
Virtually, or masked+distanced+outdoors in-person. (I'm in a country that's relatively safe now.) My relationships have been taking the backseat – no, trunk seat – for way too long.
I've been thinking... Löttery players are fooled, 'coz only löttery winners make the news, not löttery losers. "Availability bias" screws up what you think is valuable. I think the same's happened to the rest of us, re: "work-life" values. People make the news for being great artists, athletes, scientists. People don't make the news for being great partners, parents, friends. (People do, however, make the news for being a great artist who turns out to be a horrific abuser.)
"Availability bias" screws up what you think is valuable.
2) Exploring stuff I've put off for years to focus on "work".
Such as: feminizing my voice, improving my drawing skills, designing plushies & costumes, studying Bayesian/causal statistics & AI, learning music composition, trying video production.
Some of these are to expand my creator capabilities! Some are just personally meaningful to me, or people I love.
3) Moving cities.
Yeah this'll suck.
. . .
Anyway, I say it again & again but I still mean it every time: thank you for taking a chance on me & supporting me. <3 You gift me financial independence, which means not only creative independence, but also means I can be flexible enough to take long-ass breaks when my psychological health is at risk. Which, at present, it is.
So: Patreon's paused from this month to March 1st, and I'll still update once-a-month-ish, whilst refilling my tanks! As for you: please take care of you, too. This year's been a hamfisted moral in how fragile life is, so make an exact list of who and what is important to you, and make no compromises about them.
Stay golden, y'all. See you for an non-pledge-charged post next month!
