You said how much?!

We knew that getting into Scuba Diving would be VERY pricey...Not so much the classes but we knew we'd need to get our own gear, that means we'd need to spend some serious money, unfortunately.

We debated and debated before coming to the decision that this would be great for our video series and for the experience in general...So, we dove all in.

At first, we thought the final step in really committing to scuba diving would be purchasing the gear but we actually purchased all of our gear before completing our dive certification...Which might sound a little backwards. After our initial class with rental gear we knew we'd want to stick it out and we wanted the comfort of our own gear vs the rental gear and we wanted to be trained in the actual gear we'd be using while out there in the middle of nowhere! We recently wrote a post that detailed the cost to take the class...Which we've now completed...Now lets talk about how much it is to own your very own scuba gear!

Below you will find an itemized list of the necessities. We didn't go the cheapest route...A lot of the gear is the opposite price range actually, that's because we want quality gear that will be safe, comfortable and last in an unforgiving salt water environment.

I'll go ahead and list out the exact gear we purchased then we can sum it all up below!

Brittany's Gear

$48 - ScubaPro Nexus Snorkel

$59 - ScubaPro Ghost Mask

$172 - ScubaPro Seawing Nova Fins

$361- ScubaPro Everflex 3/2mm WetSuit

$36 - Henderson 3mm Thermaxx Gloves

$40 - AquaLung 5mm Superzip Ergo Booties

$915 - ScubaPro BCD - Hydros Pro with Air2

$989 - ScubaPro Mantas 2 Dive Computer with sender unit and HR monitor

$1980 - MK25T EVO/S620 X-TI Dive Regulator System

$197- Aluminum 80 Valve with Thermo Tanks

$68 - Weights needed

$2  - Tank Valve Cap

Jeremiah's Gear

$48 - ScubaPro Nexus Snorkel

$59 - ScubaPro Ghost Mask

$184 - ScubaPro Seawing Nova Fins

$401- ScubaPro Everflex 3/2mm Wetsuit

$45 - Henderson 3mm Thermaxx Gloves

$40 - Aqua Lung 5mm Superzip Ergo Booties

$915- ScubaPro BCD - Hydros Pro with Air2

$989- ScubaPro Mantas 2 Dive Computer with sender and HR monitor

$1980 - MK25T EVO/S620 X-TI Dive Regulator System

$197- Aluminum 80 Valve with Thermo Tanks

$68 - Weights needed

$2  - Tank Valve Cap

So the total? The grand total for both sets of gear? $9795.00!!

Did we pay that? Fortunately NO. We got a HUGE discount for several reasons including military service, package discounts and more. But we still spent a lot on the gear.

Now we need to make it worth it by USING it!! We're excited to take you along with us! We can say for certain that we'd not be doing this if it weren't for you. We enjoy the episodes most when YOU enjoy them, we hope that this adds to your experience!

As always, feel free to send any questions through messenger or by commenting below!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ great gear! I need access codes for Vimeo!

Thank you, Charles! The deal was that if I committed to this then Jeremiah would wash my gear for me - LOL...He's done a wonderful job so far!! Trust me, we plan to do lots of different dives!! ;)

Great choice in gear. Make sure you give it a good fresh water rinse and service every year and it will last. Besides the wet suit will get really warm in the tropics. wear a rash guard or just dive naked when the waters hot. LOL

That's what we've heard so far! Actually, it seems as if all the instructors are using the same one too! We LOVE it but we also have some really good reasons as to why we went with that one. What sold us was the fact that it will hold up on the boat in the salt water environment. So that will save us money down the road. Secondly, the effortless breathing was huge for both Jeremiah and I as it helped ease our anxiety not feeling like we were gasping for air. The dive computer is awesome and has become our everyday watch since it will hold up on the boat. Also having the option to read each others air is huge since we are forever dive buddies and one of us is always sucking down all their air, not mentioning any names!! LoL

Lazy Gecko Sailing

You are so brave to rebuild your very first regulator - I don't think I could have trusted that for my first time with the amount of anxiety that I have doing this right now...I must say that it's getting easier to relax with each dive! I just have to get this whole seeing a shark thing under control!! Haha!!! I'd almost rather close my eyes and just hold on to someone...LMAO!!

Lazy Gecko Sailing

So true! Before the boat we did a lot of Motocross stuff and boy oh boy that was just as expensive! You only live once so try to enjoy it the best you can :) That's what I always say!!

Lazy Gecko Sailing

Yeah it is a lot of money but so is everything else...I guess it just depends on what you as an individual wants to do to enjoy life...Ya know? We were very fortunate and didn't have to pay that amount with all the discounts and deals that we worked out :) We put up the price of what it would cost someone if they got the gear we got, not what it cost us.

Thank you for the positive feedback!!! Get some new gear and come join us all in the deep blue<3

The reg system you bought is the best money can buy. Itโ€™s also the most important piece of gear since itโ€™s your air delivery system. Ive used the same regs that you purchased for 10 years with no issues. The seawings are a fast fin. You may find out that the fin is a bit too much for what you do. At least with the dive computer you also got a cool watch you can wear. Jeremiah should also be able to monitor your air as well as his own on his computer to keep you safe. Have fun

I know you will have a good time and the New gear is great. I've been a diver for 40 years and can tell you that your spending is not over just wait until you get into Camera gear or drysuits, rebreathers or mixed gases but it will all be worth it. When I started my first gear was bought at a pawn shop and I rebuilt my regulator myself. I'm not sure that's a good idea for everyone but it worked for me and my wet suit was different top and bottoms. When you have to you put up with a great deal. You will save money now when your boat hull needs a good cleaning. Have a good time and be safe out there.

Yep all sports and hobbies cost money. ๐Ÿ™‚

PBC_Global

Holy crap that's a lot of money to swim under water. There's just no way I could talk myself into spending that. But hey its your money so have fun.

Well worth it! You will love scuba diving. I wish I still had all my gear.
