Most coffee drinkers understand how vital it is to wake up and enjoy that first cup of coffee. Well, I indulge in that pleasure and if you’re a sailor then you know how much you look forward to that morning cup of hot Joe!
When we were two weeks into our trip around Florida...One late afternoon we neared Marathon. The seas were rough...We were beating upwind towards the inlet in about 5 foot seas. As usual I made sure to stow everything into place…Or so I thought. Before we knew it my French Coffee Press was flying across the galley. It turns out that one cabinet didn’t latch correctly because we had hung a trash bag from it. Mistake!
So there it was, my smashed coffee press. No more coffee for us! Then it hit me! I realized that we had some long time friends that happen to also be Patrons in Marathon cruising on their new boat! A while back I had sent them a French Coffee Press as a part of their Patreon swag. So I asked them if they had a spare way to make coffee aboard their vessel? They didn’t, so I happily told them not to worry about it, I'd find a way into town to replace ours.
Well later that evening I spotted a dinghy heading our way in the distance. I figured it was the people from a nearby boat, maybe they were headed back from land...As they got closer I realized it was our friends! They pulled up to our stern and held high a bag with their coffee press in it! They cheerfully gave me the press we had sent them so long ago. I was so touched...The trip was probably a mile on a dinghy, it was totally not necessary! So sweet!!
So, we visited and spent some time together...Wonderful times. After a bit, we said our goodbyes and they left. I opened the bag so I could place the press in it's spot and boom! I couldn't believe it!
What I had in my hand was a coffee press that was about 1/4 the size that I thought it should be. It was like a shot of coffee instead of a big press! I was devastated!
I sent our friends...Our Patrons, a crappy little shot thingy instead of the coffee press that should hold several cups of coffee! Whats the point of that thing?!?!
I started to freak out a little bit wondering how many other Patrons I had done this to. I sent some messages to see and apologized continuously. I felt awful...It's been 2 years and I haven't heard anything about it!
Oh, how I love the people we've met along our journey! Thank you guys for all the support, love and friendship you have given us! To the wonderful friends that sacrificed their coffee shot press thingy...Please let me know how we can repay you!! We love you guys!
