SOLD!

UPDATE! We still can't reply to comments but we'll message you if you do comment!

The Lazy Gecko is SOLD!

She carried her new family into the sunset today as they motored out of the marina...Headed for a journey of their own. That's wonderful and sad at the same time!

We only showed her to one interested couple since posting her for sale in September, they are the ones that bought her. That wasn't due to lack of interest...We had a lot of inquiries! It had to do with us not being sure if we REALLY were ready to sell her. So once we finally decided to sell, we contacted the interested parties in order. The first to respond went to Key West so they could have a look. We FedEx'd the key next-day and our friend showed them the boat while on the hard at 3D boatyard on Stock Island. They liked her and gave us an offer of $40,000....She was listed at $45k.

We responded with the three options we posted about before, they chose to take an option that reduced the price to $42,500 but didn't allow for any price negotiations after the survey. The survey was scheduled and we flew to Key West.

This was the first time we saw her after hurricane Irma and let me tell you, she was FILTHY. We've never seen her so bad!! So we took a day and cleaned her up. The only damage from the storm was that the cockpit lights didn't work anymore ($40 from West Marine) and the flag halyard was wrapped around a stay which we fixed.

The survey was on the hard, we weren't able to do a sea trial because the demand for spots on the hard is so high in Key West that we were told "if she touches the water, you'll lose your spot". The Hurricane damaged boats are all over the place and are needing spots on the hard for repair. So we agreed that we'd fix any issue with the engine if the engine wouldn't start once they bought the boat...They had one day to make that happen or the agreement for that was void.

After a long day, the survey was completed, they bought her and we all went to our hotels. This morning we met them and splashed the Gecko (which will now be called Bellavista after their dog, Bella), we cranked the engine over and off they went. Of course, we gave them a run down of all the systems onboard, which are a lot! As they motored away the marina was able to save a sinking boat by pulling her from the water and placing her in our old spot.

Our great friends, Annie and Phillip from Have Wind Will Travel showed up after sailing down to Key West. They bumped into the new owners the night before the splash and got to talking. Then they came to the marina and surprised us for the send off! How cool, they even bought this sweet bottle of Champagne for the new owners...Who let us borrow it for the photo lol

Overall, we're happy she sold and are SO excited about our new boat! We paid $38,900 for the Gecko, we put a lot into her but are pleased to have sold her for more than we purchased her for. Now it's time to get serious about looking! We hope to buy in the next few months!

It was great! Now we can finally just unwind from deciding to sell or not and it's a huge financial weight off our backs. The marina was almost 2k a month to keep her on the hard! Oh, a new Gecko is definitely in the works.
