Hurricane Irma Update!
Added 2017-09-09 03:32:05 +0000 UTCHello Patrons!
We pray that none of you are in the path of the Hurricane Irma. If you are, please, please stay safe! Two of our Patrons were actually stranded in Puerto Rico, they had to endure the storm as it passed. They've made it through safely, thank goodness!
The Lazy Gecko is on the hard in Key West, she's located on the southeast part of the island. The most recent forecasted track takes the eye of the hurricane very close, if not directly over Key West. The boat is right between another sailboat and a big tug boat looking thing that I (Brittany) think is going to fall over on her lol. She has trees immediately behind her and is about 500 feet from the water.
While we're saddened that she'll most likely not make it through this storm, we're much more concerned about the people that are in the storms path. We truly hope they all get out of there. Key West, the other lower Keys and southern Florida will probably take some major damage here, unfortunately.
Jeremiah and I had discussed this, we knew there was a risk of weather. That's a fact of life down in that area and is something you have to accept when you decide to take on this lifestyle. Having the boat there was a risk, as it turns out she would've probably been hit anyway had we taken her where we considered! She's fully insured, we're prepared for a complete loss should she get a direct hit. Our personal items are all off the boat and we've already begun looking at new boats. We're pausing though to watch and see what happens tomorrow and Sunday. Will she be sold and sail on or has she seen her last sail? We will know sometime in the near future. Of course, that depends on how long it takes people to get back down to Key West to send information.
So like we've said before, stuff can be replaced, people can't. She's a nice boat...But so what?! You won't hear any boohooing from us should we lose the boat. How could we? It's not like we had no idea there were hurricanes! We knew that, had a plan for it and implemented it once it happened. What an experience. We'll just continue on, get another floating home and sail on! We just want people to survive this sucker! Be safe Patrons! We appreciate each and every one of you!
P.S. As I typed this Irma was upgraded to a Cat 5 again, she's a beast!
Love,
The Geckos!
