Haha! I love these inputs! I understand that for some people it is hard, or they dislike conversation, but bonding takes two! Also the headphones thing? 100000% agree. I used to wear them without music just so people would leave me alone π

2025-02-07 18:44:09 +0000 UTCits was great getting to see my family and some of my old school friends. He loved getting to see Moscow and the surround area with the mountains. He enjoyed the food too, nothing beats my mothers home cook meals. We normally only get the chance to get back to Russia once, maybe twice a year so its always great to see everyone again.

2025-02-07 18:08:42 +0000 UTCYou may want to react to this video, which will explain it. It involves the stand-up Stewart Lee and the actor who played Father Stone (starts at 5:20): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2CGryAkxkM

2025-02-07 17:35:14 +0000 UTCAnd there are also people like me, who are just naturally more quiet and don't feel the need to fill air with small talk, because we're comfortable with silence. I vastly prefer that over people constantly trying to make small talk with me when I clearly don't care about anything they're saying. Unless we're friends, I don't really care about listening to people and the small talk nonsense they spout. I genuinely despise that. Like, stop bothering me, you are of no interest to me, get a hint already. Bonus point if they start talking when you have headphoones in, that's basically a do not disturb sign.

2025-02-07 16:41:37 +0000 UTCGreat reaction! but I'd like to point out that some people, such as me, find conversations incredibly hard. I put an incredibly amount of effort into trying to improve with little success. I understand someone who finds it easy would look at me and saying I'm putting in no effort, but it's just not true. I mean... I'm not as bad as father stone though lol.

2025-02-07 07:51:40 +0000 UTCOk I'll bite.. Random question of the day; I once listened to you speak about how much you despise a bully so why do you allow such a nasty spiteful troll free reign over your community to feed on where many people are clearly struggling for whatever reasons (some have even bravely admitted so publicly to you) and they come here for respite, he knows this too but is constantly and consistently picking away with barbed comments at unsuspecting members who are just trying to have fun, there's a trail of deleted comments due to it, breaking the few rules you have too and you never pull them up in fact you defend them and tell people they are funny? If the money is important to you I will happily double my pledge for the sake of the greater community if it gives us all a safer space to play. Your space your rules whatevs, I'll follow, but it genuinely needs to be asked because it is confusing a.f. he is losing you customers he jumps in and people don't come back, insulting your bestie the way he did and you didn't even pull him up on it is heartbreaking, but if that stuffs fair game that's ok with me too, so can I clap back? I can play that game. I'm not here to fight but I cannot bow down to a bully. Just let's clarify the rules here first, I'm done biting my tongue cause it's developing callouses now. What gives Mandy?

She wasn't a very sociable person (the complete opposite to my grandfather) and she'd just sit there like Father Stone. On the rare occasion where she did want the TV turned on, after about half an hour she'd just ask for it to be switched off again. I can't actually recall her ever laughing now that I think about it.

2025-02-06 16:34:59 +0000 UTCPreaching to the choir there with peoples crap convo skills. RANT ALERT: Especially texting, that's why I usually try to call or send an audio/video note. No offense but girls in particular are the worst for it (except you Mandy, you're actually interesting and good at talking π€), there's one lass I keep in touch with but it's ridiculous: the amount of times I've have to prompt or ask and wait ages cos they just don't ask any questions; don't give straight answers or try to add to the conversation. One word answers do my head in. π€ On the face to face side, my bus customers (the older ones) are the most boring and pesemistic conversations ever. Half of em don't know what they're talking about the rest talk about boring stuff, like shopping or old politics. Or they just moan, I mean I like a rant but goodness me does everything have to be so glum. πΆ Same platitudes and phrases, talking about the weather or just saying stuff that has no answer. I can hear my brain cells dying, I prefer people my age cos you can just tell the level of education is so much higher, and the young cadets I teach bless em; you never know what they're gonna come up with and they're just so happy with things. π€ My sort of people. Rant over. I'm happy.

2025-02-06 14:46:20 +0000 UTCThe great thing about watching reaction videos is that you can just sit there, quiet with a little smirk, like Father Stone at the end there. Basking in the reactions, quips, and laughter as it all beams through your monitor, and no one will ever know you're the same as Father Stone unless you do something like make a comment about how you sort of are like him, under the video.

PS I won't spoil anything, but the next episode features a character that is only briefly seen throughout the show, but is very memorable. (Also, there is some Spanish dialogue in the opening couple of scenes, so you can tell us if the translations are correct) π

.
2025-02-06 13:05:26 +0000 UTCIβve been waiting for this episode Mandy. I have an anecdote about it. When I was growing in the 80s and 90s, my maternal Granddad would visit us, about twice a year, travelling 110 miles by coach and bus from his home in Bristol. The bus stop was right outside the house and when I was very young, seeing him step off was always very exciting. What small child doesnβt like spending time with Granddad? Unfortunately, by about 1988, he had completely exhausted his only two topics of conversation; the war (in which he fought as a young man), and the water board (the water utility service in which he worked his whole life). Conversations about these things could no longer be sparked, and he had no interest in talking about literally anything else. So he would park himself in one of the armchairs in the living room, interlock his fingers in front of his belly, with a cup of tea by his side, stare into middle distance, and say absolutely nothing. For sixteen hours a day. For three days. He did not want the TV on. He did not want music on. Even the offer to put a Bond movie on, something he used to love, was rejected. It was always, just like Father Stone; βNo, Iβm fine.β And then just more silence. My mum felt duty bound to sit with him, as did my sister and I when we got home from school. We counted the minutes as they ticked by in super slow motion, waiting for him to go to bed so we could have the TV on. But it was tortuous. Thatβs not even the anecdote. Hereβs the really funny thing. The height of this period, when we had come to dread his visits, was the mid-nineties. A certain TV show called Father Ted had started the week before. Weβd enjoyed it, and as we sat there in grim silence, weβd noted that episode 2 was on this evening, and just after Granddad retired to his room for the night. Something to look forward to. Eventually, the merciful moment came and he went to bed. We turned the TV to the opening credits of Father Ted, and this was the episode presented to us. βEntertaining Father Stoneβ. We sat there in utter disbelief, as our exact predicament played out in comedy form, play for play, at times, almost word for word. I canβt tell you how astonishing this was. It was like the writers had been sitting with us all this time. We started to refer to Granddad as βFather Stoneβ, joke that we should fake a fire, or hide in the attic. Or even, take him mini golfing. π When he went home, we would ceremoniously close the front door and punch the air with excitement. It sounds terrible now, but you must understand the context of the situation. He continued to visit for a few years after that, but every time, as we watched him step off the bus, Mum would imitate Mrs Doyle, and say quietly through a fixed, fake smile; βOh no, itβs Father Stone.β π€£π€£π€£ If you read this far, thanks. Sorry if it ironically bored you. π
