Suck It Weekly, Volume 27 (Documentary Poll)

-STILL WORKING OUT THE KINKS ON THIS POLL: We removed Billy Connolly as that's a stand-up special, added Touching The Void from the movie poll as that's leaning towards documentaries, and have added a few more docs to this poll. Full Stand-up specials should be reserved for when documentaries run their course.

-WHAT HAPPENED?!: The Britpop Documentary was the runner-up in the last Documentary poll, yet it's sitting at 3.6K Views as of right now! We generally don't complain when something flops like that, but y'all picked it and it flopped so we're genuinely concerned that we did something wrong. Was it that we picked LIVE FOREVER over the BBC 4 Doc? Was it bad timing because Glastonbury Festival was this weekend? (Something we didn't realize was this weekend until it was too late, y'all should know by now that we need to be told these things at least 10 business days in advance). Or was it because we plugged our sponsor Lloyd Guitars? Anyway, CLICK HERE if you missed the video.

-MOVIE OF THE WEEK: Our movie of the week for the Cinematic Embracers Tier will be A BRIDGE TOO FAR.

-SPORTY EMBRACERS PICKS: Today at 4 PM UK/11 AM EST there will be a poll coming out for your tier where you're going to choose the match/race we react to next as we've now gotten the 3 starter videos out to you, the player of this week will be The Welsh Wizard Ryan Giggs, and as a reminder there is no bonus movie this week.

-PEEP SHOW, THE IT CROWD, & FRED DIBNAH'S MADE IN BRITAIN: S2E5 Of Peep Show, S1E5 of The IT Crowd, and Episode 3 of Fred Dibnah's Made In Britain are all a go for this week for their regularly scheduled times on Patreon and YouTube respectively.

-SONG FOR DANIEL'S SON "A BETTER MAN": Thank you to everyone who has already checked out my solo performance of my original song "A Better Man". For those of you who haven't checked it out yet, I wrote it using all the things Daniel told me he wanted to say to his son whist we were out at a bar before Alexander was born. CLICK HERE to watch on my music YouTube.

I think that's all for this week, LOVE Y'ALL & I HOPE Y'ALL CRUSH THE WEEK!!!

I really enjoyed the reaction to the britpop doc and I think it was one of your best ones, so I don't get why people didn't watch it. Saying that though, the doc covered an overview and there is another load of interesting stuff on Suede and Elastica about the early britpop era as you could call it, that's in the BBC four doc. There is also another good one called Rock Family Trees on this on YT. I had a suggestion for a documentary, and thought Spencer you might get something out of it particularly as a singer songwriter. It's a doc on Nick Drake called 'a skin too few'(contains some of his great songs too). A poet of a songwriter and one of the best finger picking style guitarists there has been. Achieved fame after he died but no recognition in his lifetime. Another YT one on him that's good is Nick Drake, the Van Gogh of Music. Its a tragic story in parts so may not be right for the channel but I'd recommend checking him out

Just dive into “Senna” it won so many awards (eg Sundance film festival award for best documentary). You don’t need to watch his races. The Clarkson Controversy Doco has some interesting facts but not all of them are correct and it’s BBC…who he parted with acrimoniously so unsurprisingly it’s typical BBC left wing BS.

I agree. It’s worth a watch but it wasn’t as touching as “Senna”. I wish the Schumacher family had opened up a bit more or taken a different approach to the documentary because it didn’t move me.

As mentioned above I really think you should dive a bit more into some of their races before watching the Senna and the Michael Schumacher documentaries as they would be a lot more enjoyable 👍🏻.

I watched the Live Forever reaction and really enjoyed it - particularly your thoughts on songwriting pre and post success. However one thing that irritates me about that particular documentary is that it leads you to believe that Oasis won the battle for the No 1 single when in fact Blur did! Parklife sold 3 times as many copies than Definitely Maybe, however Morning Glory sold 12 times as many copies as The Great Escape (this is mentioned in the BBC4 documentary) - so the tide did indeed turn towards Oasis after that "battle of the bands" - but Blur actually won it. However I don't understand why it didn't get more viewings - maybe (as you have suggested) most music fans are watching all the Glastonbury coverage? You guys didn't do anything wrong imo x

Hope you are doing OK Spencer

"Touching the Void" plot concerns Joe Simpson and Simon Yates' near-fatal descent after making the first successful ascent of the West Face of Siula Grande in the Cordillera Huayhuash in the Peruvian Andes. I never expected a documentary on mountaineering would have such an effect on me.

The Schumacher documentary will become more appealing to you the more you dive into f1 I’d recommend looking at some epic races he had before jumping straight into it

I think the Live forever Documentary may just take a bit longer for people to get round to atm as not only is it festival season but also the start of the dreaded school summer holidays lol so lots will be struggling to find the spare time to watch hour n half video atm, Was a great reaction and I reckon it should do well but will just be a slow burner 👍🏻

I don't recall seeing the notification for your Brit-pop post on YouTube. As for documentaries, Strphen Fry's ones on America are pretty cool and his ones about Mental health are enlightening.

I am just so busy with actual gigs right now so maybe it was a Glastonbury effect

this year marks the 80th anniversary of the dambusters raid which may interest you.

Rich Hall’s stuff is really good, and you’ll both love all of Guy Martin’s stuff - there’s such a tenge of it from industrial history like Fred Dibnah, to the various speed record attempts and a lot of military stuff, as well as some travel stuff
