13 Hour Challenge(英語ペラペラ)

I did the 13 hour Challenge from Saitou Naoki-sensei's channel as part of the 1 month improvement camp yesterday, so I thought I'd share that here.

I started with my normal croquis/gesture warm-ups. The second set is only from imagination, which is something I don't usually do, but I felt it would be good for this challenge.

These are the roughs I managed to get through for the challenge.

Initially, I had set a timer for 20 minutes so I would be aware of how much time had passed while I was working on a rough, but all in all it averaged at about 30-45 minutes for each rough.

(I think that was one of the things I learned from this challenge, that my process is pretty inefficient.)

After about 7 hours, I started to realize just how much I don't know how to do.

In other words, I realized my limit, which isn't a bad thing. I think it's good to be able to really know what kind of illustrations you can make, and what kind you can't. It stops you from worrying about or being afraid of the things you do know how to do.

As for the feeling of "invincibility" sensei talks about in the video, I don't think it really ever came for me.

Or rather, I think it's the kind of feeling you will get if you're a more positive person.

I think that's the biggest take-away from this challenge, more than learning how draw or create ideas, you end up learning a lot about yourself.

I'm probably getting close to rambling at this point, so I think I'll end it here.

Thank you for giving me a bit of your time to read this!
