45 Drives HomeLab HL 15: Why the Chassis is Important

Where did you find the HL 15 on their site? I went looking around and not only could I not find the HL15, I couldn't find any barebones cases. All of them seemed to have Xeons.

I like the density of the 45drives chassis, but I really like ones I can replace the drives on without sliding the chassis out of the rack. I wouldn't want to vibrate all of the other drives while my array is already degraded.

I mean I'll give them credit, operating out of nowhere canada brings it's own expense, and manufacturing in north america as well likely doesn't help with the cost. Definitely seems like a high end enclosure, and if you look at what buying a device with a backplane that can handle that many disks is they really aren't that far off of the competition. I would wait for a sale or something but with what you're paying for a much crappier rosewill case now it's not that bad.

I love the chassis, but I don't love the price. Even if the idea was the bring the case forward through many server iterations, $800 for a barebones is a bit rich for my blood, especially with companies like Sliger hitting way beneath that. Edit: I suppose the backplane does add some value.
