Thoughts on the Patreon fee thing
Added 2017-12-13 19:35:43 +0000 UTCtl;dr: I'm staying here
Hey!
Maybe you guys wondered about what my stance on this is. Or maybe not. I'm not big on sharing my opinions about things publicly, but since it's something concerning this Patreon, I thought I should talk about it.
If you didn't know, Patreon planned on changing the fees in such a way that especially the 1$ Patrons would end up paying much more than they pledged. Thank fuck, they rolled back on this!
People were outraged about the change and rightfully so! Some were talking about looking for alternatives to Patreon.
My stance on this was "wait and see". Which is probably why I didn't talk about this before.
I really believe Patreon has good intentions. My exchanges with the customer support, the fact that they allow adult content and just in general, how laid back they are, are all things that make me want to stay here.
The grass is always greener on the other side, but I'm not going to jump ship because of some bumps on the road. Ships do fly on roads, right?
Now there's plenty of stuff that could be improved!
I don't understand how the pledges are processed at all. The numbers just don't add up. Are they pocketing money? Or is the data, they give us, garbage?
The interface for making posts is bugging out frequently for me. Writing comments is a pain in the butt too.
And seriously! Why the heck is charge up front still not an option for all Creators?! Exploiting the system to access content for free is way to easy otherwise!
And it's a bit concerning that they thought the fee change was a good idea in the first place.
So yeah, I'm not a big fan of everything Patreon does, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I'm not changing platforms.

Hey there, I don't know how to contact you. I hope you answer to some of question for new comers. 1.How many years of experience do you have? and when you joined Patreon? 2. What applications do you use for modeling and animating? 3.Is it a good idea to start working hard for growing on Petron on it's current state? 4. Is there any advice you'd give to a new comer? Just throwing questions out there, I hope you have time helping a new guy. Thanks in Advance!
2018-02-23 23:22:43 +0000 UTCYou mean like every company ever? I'm not going to hold it against them that they want to make money as long as it is within reasonable boundaries. They are banning people that are breaking their rules against stuff like loli, snuff and beast content. If you agree with that or not is up to you. Personally I'm just glad that they are okay with explicit adult content in general. That is a rare thing!
2017-12-14 15:05:47 +0000 UTC"Patreon has good intentions", only if it brings them money and doesn't costs them legal trouble, yeah. They are definitely still banning people and censoring artists. Mostly because they're based in stupid Amerikkka.

2017-12-14 14:32:56 +0000 UTCThat's a neat idea! I really don't understand what the holdup with charge up front is though. It clearly is working.
2017-12-13 21:20:28 +0000 UTCI know they're a company and as such are trying to make a profit. But I don't believe they reached evil corporation levels (yet?). For now I'm willing to assume that this was just a really poor idea by them. Keep in mind that this change would not have affected their earnings much, so this was not an idea guided by greed.
2017-12-13 21:19:25 +0000 UTCYeah still no charge up front here, gets 2-3 new accounts to ban each day, not even kidding, feelsbadman
2017-12-13 21:07:14 +0000 UTCWould love tipping! I got a hold of an animation outside patreon and when I finally found out where it came from, I made a pledge, downloaded that animation in 1080p, and then canceled as a way to give him money for the vid. This worked ok cuz he had pay up front but a way to tip would be great. Even if I stay a patron, a way to tip per post on top of the default charge would be sweet. Let it also show which post got tips, form who, and totals. Add the tips to the next charge date and bam, added income and feel goods.

2017-12-13 20:02:47 +0000 UTCCharge up front is the biggest change I wish they'd make, followed by a "charge once" option for "tipping" on especially-liked content, with the caveat that the creators would get a smaller cut on that one due to credit card fees. To get around some of the issues on that, I wouldn't mind a deposit or advance-pay scheme where you could pay a few bucks ahead of time to make a slush fund for that sort of thing. So I could have $10 or $20 in "pre-purchase" funds, with credit card fees paid once, refilled as necessary.

2017-12-13 19:54:36 +0000 UTCI think you're overestimating Patreon's thinking processes, but yeah thank Christ they rolled back this idiotic decision. I had been waiting til this week to cancel many of my 30+ $1 to $5 pledges but now I do need to reinstate the few that I canceled already.
