Ready for painting!

My friends, the Ferdinand has passed the final inspections and it's now ready for a fresh coat of camouflage paint! :D

In other words, I added all those tasty grime effects all over the model and finished the running gear. Again, acrylic dust effects might've become my new favorite thing, and they get along so well with grease stains painted with oils. This time I used Sepia and Engine Grease from 502 Abt., and Engine Grease is especially interesting because it's glossy and translucent. You can easily build up the opacity and also control the shine if you layer both oils on top of each other.

Also, if you involve a bit of speckling with very diluted oils, they nicely seep into the acrylic dust, adding very subtle variation to the finish.

The AP shells displayed at the front might not be my brightest moment, but the best thing I had was the kit-supplied plastic parts. I'm sure brass ones would've looked infinitely better, but it is what it is!

Of course, the finishing touches took me longer than I anticipated mainly because each stain has a strong impact on the overall finish and the last thing I wanted to do was to mess the model up at the finish line.

Funny side note, just as I was about to upload these photos here, I took a look at the historical images one last time and noticed that I forgot to add the antenna! Luckily, that's a quick fix :)

The ghostly preshading still shows through giving it an ominous look. You had fun with those decals, huh?

Amazing job! I’m loving how you improvised with the plastic shells and also how you did the model in general! Can’t wait to see the finished product!!

I found a photo of the first Panther A or G will have to look again but the barrel was festooned with all sorts of greenery and flowers because it was finished, the first of that type to be made by the specific manufacturing plant. I'll look it up, I think the book was Nuremberg Panzer Factory. It has appeared in other online places with people trying to guess why it was decorated this way, and I guessed that it was a special Panther like maybe the 500th one built at the plant, then someone thought it was Christmas when it was finished, another person thought it was a bunch of drunk workers having fun after their shift was over. A couple of weeks later I found the photo and caption. The caption was written by one of the researchers who found the photo which had the notation written on it, resulting in the caption. Anyway, it has a bit of a look to it that shows the management was not strictly all business all the time!

I was wondering what those were! I saw them in reference images and just replicated the effect without thinking too much into it, lol

What is the painting base rig in these photos? I'm new to this and always curious about the various tools used.
