Trench in progress!

My friends, I've been working on the WW1-style trench for the MaK suit. Working on this scene, one thing keeps popping into my mind - it's bigger than what I'm used to! Working on 1/35 models (primarily) for most of my life, I'm not used to everything being so... big! :D For example, I had to make new, bigger bending jigs for the corrugated metal sheets. When it comes to details, luckily, freely available 3D models come to the rescue. For starters, I printed some WW1 trench boots to make the footsteps on the ground. I might include these in the finished scene because they're so nice! BTW - you can find lots of nice 3D models on Thingiverse.

So far I only have a rough outline of the scene. Note that the upper portion, or the parapet of the trench, isn't finished yet. This is where lots of sandbags will be, topped off with some loose clay.

In other news, I also took your advice and resculpted the flexible joints on the suit. This was a nice sculpting exercise and they definitely look better! Speaking of sculpting, the sandbags are (and will be) made from Magic Sculpt. The folds were created with silicone sculpting brushes, and once all of them are done, they'll receive a seam line from lead wire, and the tied ends made from Green Stuff putty.

And in even otherer news, tomorrow I'm flying off to Spain to visit the AK offices!! I'll be back on Monday night, and I'll post some interesting pictures for you once I sort through them. I don't want to spoil anything just yet, but I'm crossing my fingers for some exciting news after this trip.

Have a great weekend!
