Trench section done

My friends, this took a couple of days but I think the trench is pretty much finished. I might add a tiny bit of water at the bottom, though.

I repeated the same techniques as on that first trial section, and it went like this:

Painting the wooden walls with Old Wood, Iraqi Sand, Burnt Umber, all highly diluted and painted with visible brush strokes. Then a heavy enamel wash with Brown Wash for German Yellow, followed with more acrylic work using Light Mud + Ash Grey mixture and Deck Tan for the final highlight. Tree logs were treated with heavier washes, and I also added some moss with light Slimy Grime.

The earth is a combination of Rainmarks Effects, Earth, Brown Wash and Dark Brown Wash, all applied in different intensities depending on the surface. Darker behind the walls and at the bottom, lighter on the raised walkways.

Personal gear and stowage was painted the usual way with acrylics. As a finishing touch, I picked out some stones with Deck Tan, Light Mud and Old Wood. One reference photo I found shows a large amount of almost white rocks piled on one side of the trench, and, of course, this effect adds more visual detail!

Now onto the foreground of the diorama. This means painting the scattered wood using the same methods... again! Oh, and the worst part, matching the ground with the tank's lower hull!
