Ma frens, I present to you the first round of pin washes! The process on a model with lots of bolts and rivets tends to be rather slow, so I decided to start on the lower hull to get most of the time consuming stuff out of the way. Tomorrow I'll finish the upper surfaces.
For this paint job I chose three oil paints: raw umber, industrial earth and bitume. So far I only used the first two, raw umber - the lighter one - on the pale green base coat and industrial earth (the darker one) on green and brown. Bitume is another black-brown paint so I'll use it on the air intakes and other deep parts. All of these paints have one in common, they have this hard to pinpoint grey-green-brown tone which suits this model perfectly. They're all from 502 Abteilung of course :)
Can't wait to apply them on the rest of the model. I can see why some modellers prefer to use this as the only weathering technique on their models!
Just a small side note - while I was waiting for the oils to drain on a cardboard palette I painted all details in their appropriate colors. There's not too many of them on this tank - just the machine gun and driver's vision slot with different greys and the rest was all about silver - polished parts on wheels and lights, which were then coated with clear Tamiya paints.
I've lost the clear headlight glass from the kit, but luckily I was able to punch out a new one from clear acetate foil (the one you find on some packages) with a non-modelling punch & die tool bought in a hardware store. Another case where home-sourced tools saved the day! ๐
