My friends, the lower half of the model is finished, at least I think. The tracks are now permanently in place and I'm slowly working my way to the upper portions of the vehicle. So yeah, it's gonna be muddy.
I actually went for a different medium this time, and I tried some VMS pigments mixed with their Enamel Binders and some pigment texture. Stuff works pretty good! Especially for that ultra gritty packed-in mud in the tracks, that worked really well. It gets a little getting used to after you spend years working with enamels, for example my first several tries at mixing the muddy paste went kinda south because I didn't estimate the amount of each component and every time it just started spilling out of my palette, so I finally cut up some plastic cups into these plastic "bowls" and that works okay. The only disadvantage I anticipated was when you mix your own stuff and you need a specific color that's not out of the bottle, it's gonna be hard matching it the next day, or the day. Turns out even after the mixture dries you can revive it by adding more binder and it's as good as new, so I mixed a lot of it and I'm now just keeping it in a cup so I can weather the rest of the model with it.
The darker mud stains are made from Ammo Loose Ground though, because I haven't dialed the consistency yet and I had trouble blending it into the result I like. Since I'm already pretty familiar with Ammo stuff, it was the faster option this time.
Of course you probably noticed some grass stuck in the running gear, it's a torn sea ball glued to the tracks with VMS Ballast Freeze and the large chunks behind the wheels are just grass tufts painted with Loose Ground, and just stuck there without any glue 😁
What else? So now I'm working my way up, I kinda played around on one side and I think that looks okay, it's not too much but still evident. This model might actually look pretty good if the weathering is kept rather subtle, what do you think?
