My friends, this step took way longer than I expected. Adding all these fake lights and shadows, basically color modulation with oil paints, can be so tedious, and to be honest, quite boring after several hours! But hey, at least it's done and the model is ready for chipping. As always, some of it will get toned down with further techniques, so I made it more obvious in some places.
Yellow parts were highlighted with white, brown and green patches with very light yellow, and shadows were carried out using a dark brown paint. I pretty much just added lights towards the upper portions of each plate, some shadows around hatches as a fake outline which will work in conjunction with chipping effects and dirt (such as around the main hatch on the top), but I also used them to highlight small details like clamps and bolts.
In other news, I bought preserved asparagus ferns which I'll use to create pine tree branches - these were used on the 331 as camouflage. It looks fairly convincing and in scale as it is, but I quickly tried improving it with some static grass and white glue which made it more 3-dimensional. I think it doesn't look so good when it's sprinkled everywhere and I should make it less dense. What are your thoughts?
And as usual, now I have to make the video, and the next progress will be with some chipping!
