Patreon change (?)
Added 2019-12-02 21:56:55 +0000 UTCHey guys,
I was thinking about making a slight change in the way new Patrons are charged. It's a so called "charge up front" method, which means new Patrons will pledge immediately after joining, instead of being charged at the 1st of the next month.
According to Patreon this won't affect you in any way, you'll be charged per usual on the 1st of the next month, as you already paid for this month's membership.
What are my reasons for this?
First, there were a few people who joined, but cancelled their membership a few days before getting charged. It wasn't a lot but this could happen more frequently in the future and it's not fair towards you.
Second, I'd like to change the 10$ early access reward from 24-hour early to as-soon-as-the-new-video-is-done early, aka a week, two, or even three weeks early, depending on how much ahead I am with video production. Simply because I think 24-hour isn't early enough and it also feels weird to post "hey guys, new video is finished!" but then you'll be able to see it two weeks later. This second reason is directly affected by the first. It would be ultra unfair if people joined for free, watched a bunch of videos weeks early and then left without paying. Not to mention if I decide to make Patreon-exclusive videos in the future (this might happen).
However I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, if you'd be okay with this change, and if you see it as something that would make this a better community. Or if I should leave it as it is.
