Chapter 2321: It's Actually Wei Shi

Chapter 2321: It's Actually Wei Shi

Meng Yunzheng followed her gaze ahead and saw a young woman carrying a basket entering a nearby shop.

They hadn't seen this woman before, but her face was strangely familiar to Meng Yunzheng.

"Is that... Wei Shi?" Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu exchanged glances.

Meng Yunzheng had painted Wei Shi's portrait many times, and they had several pictures of her at home. Song Le would look at those portraits every day, trying to engrave his mother's image deep into her memory.

But how could Wei Shi be here?

This place was too far away from where she disappeared in Huajiang Prefecture.

Hearing Meng Yunzheng's words, Shu Yu confirmed that she hadn't mistaken the person. This woman was indeed Wei Shi, the mother who had disappeared.

"Didn't Zhao Xi inquire and find out that Wei Shi disappeared at the dock? Some witnesses even said she originally intended to go north but may have boarded the wrong ship?"

Zhao Xi, who was nearby, immediately nodded. "Yes, the information I gathered was exactly like that. So, did Wei Shi really take a southbound ship and end up in this southwestern territory?"

They were all a bit stunned. They had put in so much effort to find her but hadn't found any leads. Yet, unexpectedly, they stumbled upon her like this.

"What do you think? Should we go up and confirm?" Zhao Xi asked, looking at the two of them. While they believed she was Wei Shi, it would be better to get confirmation from the person herself.

Meng Yunzheng contemplated for a moment and then shook his head. "We have other matters to attend to in the southwest, and being watched like this, it's best not to create any additional complications. Let's finish our business here in the southwest first, and then we can look for her."

Now that they knew Wei Shi was in the southwest and judging by her clothing, she appeared to be a servant of some household. When she entered the shop earlier, the shop's staff immediately took the basket from her hands, suggesting that she was acquainted with them. If they wanted to find her later, they wouldn't be completely clueless.

Meng Yunzheng's decision was accepted, and Zhao Xi nodded in agreement. They continued to wander around the town as if nothing had happened, and they caught sight of Wei Shi entering the backyard of the shop again.

They spent the rest of the day exploring the county and returned to the inn they were staying at, the Fulu Inn, as night fell.

The people who had been secretly monitoring them furrowed their brows but thought that it was normal. After all, it was only the first day, and they hadn't met Qi Lie yet.

However, on the second day, there was still no change. They went out in the morning, occasionally inquiring about the whereabouts of the Dongqing Temple master as if they were genuinely looking for her. In the afternoon, they sat in the lobby of the inn, watching the constant flow of guests.

This situation made the people monitoring them think that maybe Qi Lie would disguise himself as a guest and enter the inn. They paid particular attention to the people coming and going.

Yet, nothing unusual happened.

On the third day, the situation remained the same.

The people monitoring them couldn't understand what they were doing. If they wanted to meet Qi Lie, they didn't see them making any contact with anyone. If they wanted to find the location of the Black Market, their actions seemed aimless.

However, what they didn't know was that on the third evening, the group did not dine in the inn's dining area.

Shu Yu found the outside too noisy, so she called a waiter to bring their meals to their room.

When the waiter entered the room, the group sprang into action. Xia Yan and Ying Xi stood by the door, listening carefully for any sounds from outside.

Zhao Xi took the dishes from the waiter and placed them aside.

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng sat at the table, leaving the middle seat for the waiter.
