I barely worked on the upcoming Auto-Shooter game until this week because I was planning to transfer everything over to Godot from the engine you see here, Construct 3.
This video is a playable demo that you can try by messaging me. It is currently completely safe for work because I want to make sure the core system is fun enough before I add in all the NSFW fun stuff. I have started to price will will likely be thousands of USD of art to replace every placeholder funded by you all!
Notable improvements since last video:
✈️ Pathing automatically goes to the mouse without requiring a click. Clicking causes flying now and is much closer to the "dash" I was envisioning. (I also added a nifty affect of increasing in size as she flies up) The stamina bar is much smoother now as well. There is also an animation now when you run out of stamina. (not shown)
⚔️ There is a sword now that automatically swings and saves you from taking a hit if it is active. You can see it appear in her hands when it is ready to use or automatically refresh it by stopping. You have no idea how hard it was to make the sword work right...
🦇 Enemy AI's adjusted and 2 more enemies included. (one not shown by accident but it doesn't do much yet)
🛑 Stop and go stances. Makes sword rapid fire but more planned for this in future!
🖱️ Created a "tutorial" start to teach controls. (Yep, that's all the controls, one hand friendly!)
💥 Character damage animations (sorry not shown, I guess I'm too good at my own game...)
🦯 Character weapon staff switching in lower right model.
- Tons of animations and timings reworked. Screen jitter also fixed!
And now to a bunch of behind the scenes musings that will bore most of you but I need advice on:
I have done all my work thus far in Construct 3 which is a drag and drop, visual game engine that you don't need to know how to code to use. Virtually every programmer warns me that this is a big mistake and that I need to take off the training wheels and learn how to code for real. Nearly all of them suggest Godot but at the same time none of them have finished their own project yet. I would consider this a good conundrum to have but I have flipped flopped on it about 4 times over the last weeks...
Pros/Cons of Sticking with Construct 3 instead of Godot:
✔️✔️ I can create things incredibly fast. That video may not look impressive to most but the fact that someone who doesn't know how to code made that in a month is mind blowing.
✔️ It's honestly fun to build in and I am still learning lots each day.
⛔ It costs 130 USD per year PER USER which will go up to around 500 USD if I make money off of it. I am currently using the free one but have used up all the features. The fact that I am actually moving forward with an actual video game makes this cost entirely worth it to me though.
⛔ I will effectively be working alone because no one else would want to use Construct or even use it. (coders look down on drag and drop coding) This would cut out some people eager to help me.
⛔ There is a possibility that there could be an engine limitation but I have projects made in it that are more impressive than what I am planning. (I think I am pretty good at working within limitations considering what I pulled off in EOS with great help)
Pros/Cons of Switching to Godot:
✔️It's free!
✔️ I currently have someone ready to walk me through it and WAY more "help" available online. However, they haven't been that available yet.
✔️ I could learn actual coding.
✔️ There are others who really want to work on a team with me to bring things to life. They could have new perspectives.
⛔ I have to start all over.
⛔ I failed to get even the most simple thing running without errors for years now. Even looking at code is painful to me. (But I think I can get used to it if I start having successes)
⛔⛔ I have to trust someone else to code the game or walk me through it step by step. If they quit, there is a high chance I will be stuck.
⛔ I will never work with someone as motivated to bring my ideas to life as I am. I expect progress to be far slower even if there are multiple hands to work on it.
⛔ If it comes to life, I have to pay the other developer(s).
