The verses are from the book Lamentations, which is a collection of poems dealing with suffering from the punishments of God during the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians and questions whether or not God has abandoned his people. It's interesting, the parallels between this episode and Lamentations, the poems in Lamentations admit that they are being punished by God for their sins, like the girl being punished with the destruction of her village.
