2022-05-24 03:52:11 +0000 UTCMoulin Rouge is a strange movie for a LOT of reasons, but it's probably better understood in context: When it came out (so to speak) in 2001, there had literally not been a musical movie in theaters since "Little Shop of Horrors" in 1986, and the more Broadway-friendly "Chicago" didn't win the Oscar until a year later in 2002. So basically, for anyone born after 1986, this movie, and Disney's "High School Musical", were their first introductions to the mind-blowing concept of Movies Where People Sing in Public. đ
