Opinions on the upcoming "Work" feature.
Added 2019-09-20 08:13:22 +0000 UTCI'm looking for some feedback for the upcoming "work" feature. It's one of those really difficult things that I've been putting off adding because it's not very sexy and has the potential to take a lot of time and creative energy to implement. My goals are: to provide the player with an alternative means to earn currency, move the main storyline along, and provide the player with satisfying non-H gameplay that doesn't subtract from the overall experience. This is surprisingly difficult. For a time, I had considered incorporating doom-clone gameplay and letting the player run and gun their way up the corporate ladder, but after implementing a rudimentary fps system it felt REALLY out of place. The last thing I want to do is force players to engage with a shitty, knock-off arcade game to get to the "good stuff." Is anyone playing these games because they really love Space Invaders, but just wish the aliens would occasionally show their tits?
At the moment, I'm mostly leaning toward building a system of mini-roleplaying events that will present the player with workplace situations and a list of choices. I.E. "At an important work meeting, you reach for your stapler only to notice that your workmate has hidden it in a jello mold. How do you respond? A: plot your revenge. B: let it go and focus on the meeting. C: make a smooth joke to lighten the mood(Soul) D: smash it in his stupid face(balls)." The final system will keep track of player choices and have multiple endings. These meetings will only be accessible during the afternoon and will take up 1 or more blocks of time. The obvious downside to this system is that, like the talk feature, it will require a lot of work and in the end many players will likely skip it, which I have no intention of preventing. Skip everything you want, I'm not in charge of you.

Imagine some waaaaay over the top 80s corporate training material with gloriously out of date tropes. You have to listen to a short spiel, then answer a quiz. If done right, that could be pretty damned funny. I'm thinking an over-the-top hammed up version of stuff like the spectacular Wendy's Grill Skills vid they made their grill cooks watch, starring Dave "I don't do second takes" Thomas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbVDQKcxg00. You could go lots of fun places with this: sexual harassment, workplace safety, corporate espionage, conserving company money, environmentalism, working with union employees, filling out corporate paperwork, how to respond to police investigations, obeying the company chain of command, drug policy, etc. Some of the "videos" could star Bitch as the corporate spokeswoman, or recycle other character as the spokesperson, or introduce someone new that we hunt down and enlist as an ally (or sex partner or whatever).

2019-09-20 10:42:29 +0000 UTCI think as long as the work thing has an actual impact on the game experience (i.e. something noticable/important to the players, whatever that is, changes due to it) instead of just being a button you click to see a higher number somewhere, people will be interested in pursuing it. Couldn't tell you what that is though, having people react differently to you has been a staple to "rank-ups" of all kinds since the first Fable game, but you kinda lack the background NPCs for that and implementing them for it would really not be worth the time if you'd want to do it in a way that feels satisfying. Maybe you could get the Bitch demoted and yourself promoted eventually, forcing to address you as sir even if she's in a bad mood or being able to make her run errands for you (which make you money). Including new sexual options into those errands (plsnocuckstuff) might be possible too. I'm sure you'll come up with something, just keep your own wisdom in mind that an activity that doesn't really make a difference to how the player feels or what kind of porn he sees in a porngame isn't an activity worth including, since then it's just busy-work.
