MH day 4: SHOES!

Sometimes the way I go about shoes is.... Unconventional. For both of these dolls, I'm actually carving them out of a block of sculpey. I cut out the silhouette shape twice and get to carving.




Carve, carve, carve, then smooth it out normally, with tools and fingers. Since it's solid clay, I push two strong wires into the form for some added durability. I then baked them as they are to make sure I didn't mess them up!








Here's some weird science I had to do for heart shaped heels. I took some dowels cut down to size (note to self: get small hand saw) squished them into a bit of clay to hold them together, added a toothpick, and slathered with sculpey bakeable adhesive. All of this went into the oven so it won't budge when I make the pointed bit. After baking, I pop the clay blob off (I'll be using it as filler in future projects) and am able to easily make the pointed side, which grips to the bake n bond easier than it would have to the wood alone. I then carefully drill into the heel of the greater shoe piece, then carve out a bit of a crater, until the heel fits!





I shove some tin foil onto the bits of wire sticking out, applying bake n bond between the two, and where the heels attach to the shoes. Bake again.

I add clay to the ankle bits, and put in eye screws, where I'll be threading ribbons later. Clay was added to the top of the heels to look flush.


Onto Frankie's boots! I did the same method for the most part.


I stack a bunch of slabs of clay to make platforms. I cut them to size and molded them to the shoe.


I add a thin slab around the platform for dimension, then cut a wedge out




I add thin slabs for detail, and define the toe of the boot


Lightening bolts on the back :)


I add pins for laces to hook onto, as well as a bunch of nails cuz. Why not.






And I got a bunch of detailing done on Draculauras face!
