Hello again,
Time for a status update. I'm still plugging away at the game whenever I can find the time. While we wait, I wanted to give you guys a quick update on what you can expect in regards to battling in the upcoming release.
First and foremost, the entire battle system in Aylia's Story has been designed with adult content in mind. As you might recall in the prologue, gone are the standard RPG Maker UI, system design, numbering scheme, and default graphics. Instead, I'm aiming for battles to be built in a way that organically leads to sexual situations.
This means that enemies will take a few hits to defeat, which will give them time to perform potential exploits during battle. This stemmed from past experiences in games where I would have to purposely guard or waste time in order to see battle content--something that took me out of the game. In Aylia's Story, you shouldn't have to do that, but I do offer the "wink" skill to assist if you really, really want to.
To offset battles taking a little longer, I have worked to build a system that is not reliant on grinding a bunch of random battles. Enemies are visible on the screen and you can dodge them if you want. Additionally, most enemies do not respawn, and the few that do only do so when you sleep (not on every map change). This will allow players to explore without being burdened by a battle every few steps.
Let's talk about the battle content itself. In Aylia's Story, specific enemies are able to exploit Aylia's current outfit. For the peasant dress, that exploitable area is her bust. They can pull down her dress. When this happens, a cut-in graphic appears and then her battle portrait changes to reflect that exploited state. New "attacks" then become available to the enemy. This also influences Aylia's action in a variety of ways. The player will be able to sacrifice a turn with a defense penalty to fix the outfit or just finish the fight, breasts out.
Regarding the enemies that will take advantage of Aylia, each enemy has multiple "attacks" that they can randomly perform once Aylia is exploited. Additionally, once she's in the exploited state, they will ONLY perform these types of attacks. So, you will see them occur. If Aylia has not defeated the enemy before they perform enough sex-style attacks, the enemy will by excited enough that it will finish from that excitement and the battle will end. In this way, having these attacks occur does not result in the game ending, but Aylia would surely prefer to win battles through more traditional means! On that note, Aylia's HP dropping to 0 will also not result in game over anymore, as Bogwort has a few tricks up his sleeve to save her.
You might be wondering how Aylia's outfit and exploited status impact her? Well, good news, it does! First, if you choose not to waste a turn fixing her outfit (I don't blame you), then her cut-in attacks from her skills will reflect her current state. Spoiler alert: her boobs look pretty sexy from all angles! Second, as you've already seen, her battle portrait will change based on her outfit, and that will in turn change everything else. Enemies will exploit different parts of her outfit and that will result in different cut-in graphics, etc.
Hopefully, all of that sounds pretty damn exciting. I know I think it is. A couple caveats though is that all this cool stuff requires a good amount of work. This means that the overall number of enemies in the game will be more limited, and the number of outfits Aylia can acquire and wear in battle will be very limited (I'm thinking 3-4 max). Think quality over quantity. It's also why it continues to take me quite a bit of time to get things up to release quality and ready for your consumption.
The next release IS being worked on and IS coming soon. When it does drop, you will be able to enjoy battles against both munchkins and water slimes, which I'm hoping will get everyone even more excited to see what's to come. I don't have a date to give for this release, but I will remind everyone that this Patreon is NOT a monthly subscription, so don't worry about getting charged every month while you wait. I hope it is worth it in the end.
P.S. I've been digging through quite a few adult game releases these days. I've enjoyed all the fun and exciting stuff I've played, and there are some real gems out there. That said, I still firmly believe that Aylia's Story is aiming to do something I've yet to find in other games. If I can pull this off, I think people will be very pleased with the result.
