ParaNorman (2012) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

This movie was not on my radar whatsoever. I was having a chat with my editor Eduardo earlier this month and I mentioned that I wanted to react to some animated movies soon (and had meant to back in August but ran out of time). He suggested this movie for a Halloween watch to put in between the horror releases on the channel. Perfect, that's what I'll do! Thank you Eduardo. 😊

I have so much respect for stop-motion animators. When I finished this reaction, I went on YouTube and watched a few videos of the team working on this movie. The amount of faces alone that were made to easily swap out the various facial expressions for each character was incredible. The time spent to move limbs ever so slightly for the smoothest end result possible. The incredible artwork done for all of the backgrounds in each scene. So incredible!

I am pretty sure Chicken Run is the only other stop-motion animation that I've seen. It was one of my favourites as a child.

Please enjoy this reaction and I'm looking forward to your comments! [Direct link here.]

P.S. The animated movies that I want to react to before we reach the end of the year... The only hints that you're getting is that one of them is 2D and older, and the other two are 3D and newer! 😊

Great reaction as always! i adore this movie, so thank you for giving me a reason to watch it again. im so glad you enjoyed it! and yes i agree the animation is genuinely amazing! its so phenomenal, even just on the animation alone, but mixed with the story/messaging and the music, its just such an amazing movie. that finale, the "confrontation" scene between Agi and Norm is one of my absolute favorite scenes in animation, its so beautiful both visually and in meaning, i love HOW norm "beat" her, it wasn't a fight, it was a conversation, and the music, its criminal the music in that scene wasn't on the soundtrack, luckily there are some rips in youtube but its not the same, a number of times ive gone back and just watched this scene, its just so amazing. anywho, thanks for the reaction and the reason to watch this again!

FTR, Fantastic Mr. Fox, the Wes Anderson movie I suggested for a Thanksgiving poll, that is also a stop-motion animated movie. If you like knowing a little bit of how the movie was made, one thing that might be fun to know before seeing the film (which has nothing to do with the story or anything, of course) is that they made the choice on Fantastic Mr. Fox to record the audio in settings that resembled the ones being used in the film. I don't think they were all there at once, but Fox is based on a Roald Dahl book, and they filmed at Dahl's old estate, and the actors, while they were just in their street clothes, would so something a little more akin to live-action acting, running around and stuff, while the sound guy followed them around with a boom mike.
