Werewolf by Night (2022) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Finally remembered to come back to this. Fun reaction to a uniquely "out there" concept. I remember being *beside myself* during the transformation scene my first time around. The sharp shadows on a strobe during a slow push-in on Elsa's over-the-top expression was such a nice, authentic old horror vibe. *chef's kiss*

I loved this special presentation. Rewatching with the reaction I went for the color version since I hadn’t watched it yet. They even made sure the coloring looked like a movie from the 50’s or 60’s. Bright technicolor goodness. Color made it just as fresh and interesting as the first watch in B&W. And it was a fun reaction because of how much you appreciated the unique story and presentation. And Ted!

Bryan Dempsey

Ahh, that's fun!

Let's hope the MCU does this more in the future.

I can definitely understand the resemblance in appearance, but also personality.

So fun that he directed this after doing so many iconic scores. I thought I recognized the name.

Fun fact Man thing was the result of a Project trying to replicate the Super soldier serum. We all know those don't go well. But here is another interesting fact that is never talked about in the show but Bobbi from AOS in the comics was a part of the science team for that project. Before she was a trained field agent she was a scientist. We see she is basically in Simmons role in season 3 premiere of AOS while she is still in recovery from her ward attack and Coulson mentions she has a biology degree in the premiere.

I have no idea what this is doing in the MCU, but I LOVED this. The old horror vibe, the sets, the practical costumes, the acting choices. I like the little dog-like traits that Gael García Bernal added to the character of Jack. Like him circling before lying down, the way he scratches his ear. Fun little details.

Onno Smits

For some reason I think of Jessica Jones when I see Elsa.

I am looking forward to the new F4 film in 2025, lots of awesome MCU projects coming in the next couple of years!

A couple of Star Wars films as well. I really enjoy his work also. Right on for adding more trivia and info. My comments tend to be long winded, so I didn’t want to add more 😆

CheshireKat528

He also has a bunch of recognizable music/score work. Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Up, Coco, The Batman etc. He's also doing the music for the upcoming Fantastic Four film. Big fan of the guy.

LOVED THIS! WWBN was a highlight of phase 4, for sure! It wasn’t surprising to me, that you mentioned the music a couple of times. Michael Giacchino, who normally has his name in the credits as a composer made his long form directorial debut with WWBN. Previously his directing credits included only two other projects, a short tv episode, & a short film. With what he did here, fans have been hoping Marvel will let him direct more projects in the future, especially if they continue to explore the darker and more horrific corners of the Marvel Universe. He has been a composer for several MCU films, including the Spider-Man: Home trilogy. One of the first MCU films he composed for was Dr. Strange in 2016. The opening of DS was the first time we ever heard the Marvel fanfare that plays (most of the time) over the Marvel Studios logo as it moves on the screen. So whenever you find yourself singing along with that iconic theme (DA DADADADA DA DAAA) give a quick thank you to Michael Giacchino 😉😁

Can’t catch everything. That’s why you have us 😌

I'm ashamed at myself for not picking up on that!

The practical effects were awesome in this one. It was a pleasant surprise. They also give a little reference to Wizard of Oz playing “Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland while switching from black and white to color. Several marvel projects include references to that classic film.

Ray H

I agree! That would be so much fun.

Ted was great! And you know, I can also see Elsa as a Black Widow!

kaiielle

This was a fun reaction, and I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as we all did. FWIW, the Werewolf By Night comics have deep ties to other strange things & characters that you have already seen/heard of in the MCU, such as Mount Wundagore, Blade, the Darkhold, and Moon Knight. There are plenty more, but we won't discuss those just yet. ;) Anyway, Ted (aka "Man-Thing") is awesome. He just seems so darn cuddly in an odd way. Also, my headcanon is that Elsa was a Black Widow...explaining her long absence and training. Too, her black and red theme seems a bit on the nose. It's probably not actually the case, but it works for my pea brain. LOL! Lastly, Jovan (the big Scottish hunter) was played by Kirk Thatcher, who had a minor role in Spider-Man: Homecoming alongside another character who we later see in Shang Chi. Ah, what a tangled web we weave, right? Hehe. Good times.

This is near the top of the list of my favorite things Marvel has done. Brilliant. My vote is that they should do one of these "specials" every year for Halloween using the fairly deep bench of Marvel horror characters.

Nicholas Bielik

YAAAASSSS!!! This one was amazing! Easily among my favorite MCU additions. This should be a fun reaction — I’m curious to see whatcha think.
