Crusty Kona Hardtail gets an Invasive Overhaul

Yes, I know! Flip bike for a third time! We're getting back to Berm Park next time, and then Thumb Bucket trail, which has taken on quite a bit of rain in the last few weeks. Trying to build has been a nightmare lately.

Flip Bike is a series we're definitely going to keep going. I truly enjoy fixing up these bikes, and the constraints of needing to make a profit each time makes it even more fun.

This Kona is truly a heavy duty bike, and will probably run forever. It was kind of sad to see it go, but it wasn't my size! Enjoy this one.

Plan on doing anymore flip bike videos? I enjoy them!

As soon as you said $450 I knew what was going to happen next. $650 ish and negotiate to $600 or $550 all day long. Nice build.

This brings back images of Seth working on his 26” Trek on the Miami apparent deck. Absolutely love the series and my kids do too. Great content that is entertaining and very practical and applicable.

The pedals, the seat and the oneby were huge. I thought the grips looked a little dingy in comparison, but no biggie. The elephant in the room of this series is that your time is valued at about $3 an hour. Still, I assume the point is not really to make money but to show people how to work on your bike. I am going to search your past work for a primer on derailleurs.

I'm off to grease my pedals

Loving flip bike!

He'd just break shit

I would love a whole video centered on Oscar please! What type of food does he eat? When does he eat? Where does he sleep at night? Nap places? Daily life. Favorite trails. All the collars and harnesses.

I’m glad you mentioned that actually! Sometimes I wonder for a first time viewer if repeating certain concepts would be useful, but I’m afraid of being repetitive for regular viewers.

Fantastic series. Definitely keep doing these.

Loving this series! I bought a kona coilair and dawg last week for restoration, great way to learn

love the detail on how to repair stuff with each bike as well. i feel like this is an amazing resource for those looking to fix up thier own bike. Feel free to repeat yourself between flips as it never hurts to have you go over the basics again and again.....they may finaly sink in my brain that way🤣🤣🤣

I figured that would go for $650 easily...

Love this! so fun to see you work on cheaper bikes too.

With the way the bike market in my area has been, that bike would sell for closer to 1000

How come no one was doing bike flip videos before? GENIUS!

Same!

Ditto about "Loving this series!" Great idea and fun to watch... as always!

Love this series!

I thought you might list it for $600. It looks good.

That's called the Grand Stand, and I actually reviewed it. I really like them, and they can link together. The main criticism I see from people is that it's extremely dangerous when a bike isn't on it. I've never had an issue.

I also flipped a Coilair last year, from $100 to $600 😅 It did need just as much work as Seth's tho and I think he's undervaluing his time (but then again he's getting content out of it too).

That bike floor stand the Kona was demo'd on, who makes that or is it one off custom?

Konas are definitely cool. I'm low key watching for a Kona Humuhumunukunukuapua'a because with that name, how could I not. I built up and sold an old Kona Coilair right before the Pandemic started (which paid for my Marin San Quentin). Like your hardtail here, that sold quickly with multiple interested parties.

Love me an old Kona. Got a Cinder Cone Race Light frame in the shop waiting for its return to the sunshine. This might be the motivation to do something with it. 😁

Cool series

My first bike was a Kona Lava Dome, and I still ride it when the Stumpy is in the shop. Excited to see this one!
