Tanya is dangerously effective and efficient at her job. She will struggle to get fired or transferred.

Wanted to write a lot here but I'm starting to see sun dawn. Around 45:50 "Imagine if Tanya starts developing PTSD" Can sociopaths develop PTSD? I guess they could when PERSONAL trauma is involved... Can't see a true "machine like" person getting PTSD from guilt for example of ep8. That her squad is still all combat ready is just because Tanya is shielding them from the guilt by disassociating them from the consequences. An actual amazing leadership ability. Also the casulty rate of her squad is minimal so that in of itself lends to soldiers becoming more loyal to your command.

sooooo.... not much about the novels this time around. how about a bit of real world history instead? as someone in the comments alluded to, apparently operation lockpick is based on something the british did at the battle of messines. they detonated 19 enormous mines buried deep below enemy positions along a ridge outside of messines (belgium). the mines (totalling approx 1 million pounds of explosives) killed around 10,000 german soldier and created the largest explosion in human history, prior to the invention of the atom bomb. the explosion was so massive, it was reportedly audible from as far away as london 251 kiloneters (156 miles) and even dublin 1250 kiloneters (777 miles). these mines are considered one of the five reasons for germany's defeat by their own records..... and the mines used in tanya's world might have been even more devastating than those. also, speaking about chineses commanders, one of my favourites has to be zhuge liang. one of my favourite strategies of his was the arrow incident at the red cliffs. i'm sure you know about it, but basically they ran out of arrows and were at a significant disadvantage. so what did liang do? had a bunch of ships prepared, covered them in straw and placed some scarecrows dressed as soldier on then, then sailed towards the enemy lines. i should also mention that, thanks to his knowledge in meteorology, zhuge lian had chosen a night that was particular foggy and misty. so, when the enemy saw the ships approach through the mist and remain just within reach of their bows, they began unloading on the ships. zhuge lian waited for some time, than turned around and later collected all the arrows stuck to the side of the ships to equip his men with. maybe not as ballsy a move as the open gate strategy, but still a huge middle finger to the enemy. Edit: oh, never mind. it's actually the same guy. at least the version you mentioned. whereas the originator of the empty fort tactic was probably a man called zhao yun, the version with the flute playing commander is based on zhuge lian. also in this story the two commanders knew each other, and the invading commander knew that zhuge lian NEVER took any risks in his strategies, explaining why he was so convinced it was an ambush and he didn't send in anyone to check. it is however noteworthy that both incidents, the open fort tactic as well as the arrow gathering, are mostly fictional and based on a romantacied novel, rather than real world events.
