Factory-made 12ga flechettes - "better than buckshot!"

A viewer was kind enough to send us these rounds and the design actually looks well-engineered.

Hope you have a great 4th!

Factory-made 12ga flechettes - "better than buckshot!"

Comments

That would be sweet to see, dude!

Jared Rypka-Hauer

I'm not sure the sabot would open up under lower speeds. I do have a one or two left I can experiment with.

TAOFLEDERMAUS

The trick to keeping projectiles flying straight is having them fly straight from the instant they leave the barrel. It seems the mass of flechettes are knocking each other around when they leave the sabot.

TAOFLEDERMAUS

It really bugs me when companies make phony claims and sell overpriced stuff to people. I think these are at least $5 a shell.

TAOFLEDERMAUS

The problem would be keeping the mass flying in the proper direction. I would say it would fly sideways , but most likely the cohesive bond of just wax would not be strong enough with these larger objects. It works fine with small particles like birdshot or sand, etc.

They usually take a while to process and show up. I usually post the new videos within a couple hours of uploading them here.

If Jeff is interested, I’d love to help out... somehow... but all of these aerodynamic slugs won’t work supersonic. The little slug with the self-deploying fins especially. And the Screamer. And this one: https://youtu.be/zNwXukKlerA (I’d say the funky Russian slug, but how many would have applied with that description? lol)

Jared Rypka-Hauer

Now that might be interesting.

Planescaped

I’ve always wondered if these airflow-stabilized devices would do better flying subsonic. When they’re supersonic and inside the shock cone there’s no airflow for the fins to stabilize against. Would you consider reloading a few and firing them at say... 900fps?

Jared Rypka-Hauer

These look like the surplus flechettes from Vietnam. Those are still around as the army discovered they didn't work. Just looking at them the fins look too small for the length to stabilize them. Keep up the good work fellas, you are like the consumer reports of the shotgun world.

Jeff, Danny, Thanks again for putting the proof in the pudding, there are so many claims about products, It really coins the word,, Advertisement. It is their Advert way of Intiseing you to buy their product, Advert? That means Untruthful, or Not genuine, a Lie, or tricked into believing, false, Fake. Has no substance in truth. No foundation. Keep up the good work-Dave

At first blush, Id say that a bit of wax/paraffin/crayon material is needed to hold these together in flight. After striking the intended target, they would then separate into individual projectiles. Packed as they are, not a chance. If you can get some more of the flechettes, do try it. I think the results will be much better!

I think the first use of these was probably a 2.75" rocket warhead/

More jokes, you're on a roll.

You'r closed captioning is now enabled, Thank you. YOU have to enable it. My first look at your video there was NO CC to click on. Thank you for enabling it.

Walt, they do have closed captions now - click on the 'CC' on the bottom right hand side of the screen, and then click on the gear on the bottom right, and make make sure 'English (auto-generated)' is selected as the 'Subtitles' setting. The captions are generated from speech recognition, so you don't get things like (gunshots) or (music) , but it's good enough to make sense of things, usually..

I think a video on regular foster slugs i can find would be awesome in slow mo so i can learn something lol

I'm a patreon and I am deaf. I'm a shooter, love my 12 gauge. I would appreciate closed captioned enabled videos. I am a retired firefighter lost my hearing auto immune disease. Thank you.
